Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

Hi, I'm in the process of customizing my store and I'm having some cross-browser compatibility issues. The header image shows up fine in IE but in Firefox and Opera I lose the main header image. I've added some rollover images under the main header image and those show up in all 3 browers. Does anyone have any ideas why I'm only losing this main header image in FF and Opera?

Here's the site link: http://www.sextoyteacher.com/index.php

Thanks for anything you can do!

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

It is because you have put HTML comments into your CSS, i.e.> TABLE.header {

  					<!--background-image: url(../images/header_bg.jpg);--!>

background-image: url(../images/sextoyteacher.png);
background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-color: #ffffff;
border-right: 1px solid #9a9a9a;
border-left: 1px solid #9a9a9a;
border-bottom: 1px solid #9a9a9a;
}

TABLE.headerNavigation {
<!-- background-image: url(../images/tile_back.jpg); --!>
background-image: url(../images/header_back.png);
background-color: #abbbd3;
border-right: 1px solid #9a9a9a;
border-left: 1px solid #9a9a9a;
border-bottom: 1px solid #9a9a9a;
width: 100% !important;
}CSS comments are like this> /* ... */

You're amazing Kuroi! That was it and now it's working perfectly across all browsers.

Have a great one and thanks again!

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

NOTE: You need to carefully clean up all of your EZ-Pages ... it appears you have added the zenid to all of the links ...

They would read: &zenid=XXXXXXXXXXXX

You need to remove all of those ...

This will cause major issues ...

Be careful when editing these pages so as not to lose your links ...

Backup before attempting to fix all of these links ...

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

Hey Ajeh, how did that happen? And what kinds of issues are we talking about? I used the EZPages editor right in the Zen control panel and this is what it produced? It's easy enough to remove, but I'd like to avoid it happening in the future if you have some tips.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

I think when you grabbed the URLs they had the zenid on them ... so you pasted them in as your links ...

You can do a test via phpMyAdmin to find which ones need fixing with a SQL search ...

SELECT *
FROM ezpages
WHERE pages_html_text LIKE '%zenid%';

This will bring up all of the records that have this issue and you can see the page_id that needs fixing ...

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

NOTE: that is just checking the text content ...

But this should lead you in the right direction for checking the fields as needed depending on how you utilized EZ-Pages ...

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

Thanks for the tip on how to find the list...but that's a big list! :wacko: Is this going to be a show stopper for me later? What happens if I leave these like they are and then clean them up for all future pages? I'm sure you've got your reasons, I just want to be sure this is absolutely necessary before I embark on a tedious journey like this... :cry:

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

Only when people start crying that they are joe blow when really they are jane doe ... :eek:

It is critical that you never, ever include a zenid in code, text, email, forums, newsletters, etc. etc. etc.

You must get those all cleaned out on your site ...

Check all the fields in the ezpages table so that you are sure you did not put that in any of the possible settings ...

Then do a search in the Tools ... Developer's Tool Kit for zenid ... and you should only see that as specific code calls ... never with a value on it ...

Note: Developer's Tool Kit checks php files only ...

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

I second Linda's comments. The general confusion, not to mention the security issues of not sorting this out really don't bear thinking about. You're lucky that she spotted this.

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

I checked in the developer's tool kit and the zenid is definitely in some places it shouldn't be :blush: Clearly my inexperience with PHP and ZC is catching up quicker than I hoped it would. One last question, when you say the EZpages table is this the table that generates in the Tools menu as I add pages? or is this something that I'm not familiar with yet??? I just don't see a "setting" anywhere that would avoid the zenid going forward. whew...it's going to be a loooong day! Thanks again.

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

The EZ-Pages table is a table in your database that is added to each time you create a new EZ-Page or use EZ-Pages to create internal or external links.

Linda's theory is that you have copied and pasted links from your browser address var including by accident the zenid data which was appended to them at the time. So sorry there is no switch that will prevent them from being added, other then awareness of them and care to exclude them.

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

There are two ways to approach the information store in your database ...

1 through the Zen Cart Admin interface

2 through phpMyAdmin in the raw format

You can edit each entry in EZPages to look for the zenid ... or you can search the database table ezpages and search each field with the command I posted to check that there are no zenid stored anywhere ...

If you can do a search on each field and come up with 0 records each time, then you are done ...

If it is easier to use phpMyAdmin to identify "who" to fix and then fix it via the Zen Cart Admin for EZPages that works too ...

In either case, be sure you have a current backup of your database and site before attempting to fix these issues ...

umm ... hmm ... a spark of an idea begins to form ... how hard would it be to test the fields for something evil like zenid ... :unsure:

Gonna have to give some thought to this one ... :smartass:

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

Wait a sec! I've got the same original problem as stteacher had.

I looked through the stylesheet.css for what kuroi described and I don't see it there. Is there somewhere else I should be looking, or is there something else causing the trouble?

Re: Lost my header image in Firefox and Opera

For clairity, the original problem that I am refering to is the title of this thread. kuroi's solution doesn't seem to apply to me, unless I'm just missing it.

kuroi:

It is because you have put HTML comments into your CSS, i.e.CSS comments are like this

I'm just finding my way around code, so I may be looking in the wrong area. But because I am just finding my way around - I can tell you for sure that I didn't know to personally add the HTML comments, so I don't believe that there are any. At least, I don't think that a new Zen Cart would've come with them.

I still looked for them in case I inadvertantly copied and pasted something, but I don't see what was described anywhere.

What am I missing?

Notice the spaces in your image name? Lots of servers and browsers don't like those.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.
