Shopping cart. Where?

I am looking around at the free templats and stuff and I see that there can be a shopping cart up top. I don't see this in the default template or how to activate it in the admin. Can someone please advise?

I want something to appear in the top right like this.

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

Oh sorry, yes I have found the template. What I am asking is

  1. How do you turn on the shopping cart. I have been clicking around the Layout Box Controller and I cannot get the shopping cart box to show.

  2. How would I move the shopping cart to the top instead of the left or right column if I could get it to show?

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

There is no built-in display of shopping-cart details in the header.
Adding that will require custom coding in your custom tpl_header.php file.
You might try looking at how those other templates actually did it,and replicate relevant portions of their code...

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

In Admin > Configuration > Layout Settings > Shopping Cart box status, setting it to 0 will make the sidebox always show. Setting it to 1 will show only when full.

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

What is the layout box controller for then? I see a big line through the page. I note that the things above are viewable on the site and the things below are not. I could not find an explanation for this anywhere. How do I move something below the line above the line. Thanks

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

THe line is the divider between left/right columns.

If you edit a setting and set it to "right", it'll show below the line. Left goes above the line.

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

Ok but some of the stuff that is below the line does not show on the page at all. I know I have a lot to learn here but if I can hook on and understand one thing then I can build from there.

For instance, I have shoppingcart.php turned on and in the right column however it is not showing anywhere.

Thanks!

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

Sideboxes have several settings ...

In addition to show on Left/Right or On/Off or Sort Order ... some sideboxes have additional settings on "when" to show based on what page you are looking at ...

For example, Tell a Friend shows only if there is a products_id defined as in on a product_info page ...

Shopping Cart has additional switches on whether to show only when something is in the cart or always etc.

So you really would need to be a tad more specific about which sidebox is not working and an URL is rather helpful ...

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

Ok that makes a little more senes. Although I dont see all of those "settings" in the layout tool.

I am using the default classic Fantistico out of the box.

My playground is

zencart.bjrtechnologies.com

Thanks again.

Nothing makes the experience better than a great community.

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

Could you perhaps be more vague?

What sidebox is not showing that you think you should be seeing?

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

NOTE: Zen Cart v1.3.5 has been released and at the stage you are at I would strong recommend beginning fresh with that vs the old one that you are using ...

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

OK sorry for the vagueness........

I am wanting the shopping cart to display in the right column. I set it that way in the Tools - Layout Boxes

So I thought I might see that in the right column. It was explained above that the associated box might have some conditions but I am not sure where that is.

To address the new version. This is the version my Fantistico uses. I just changed hosts and that is how I found ZenCart in the first place.

It is cool to learn new things. Thanks so far for even entertaining my newbie quesitons.

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

Let's try again ...

Some sideboxes have additional settings ... such as:

For example, Tell a Friend shows only if there is a products_id defined as in on a product_info page ...

Shopping Cart has additional switches on whether to show only when something is in the cart or always etc.

You cannot add your 1 product to the shopping cart as it is sold out ... no product in shopping cart ... no shopping cart sidebox ...

Going to the Configuration ... Layout Settings ...

Shopping Cart Box Status
Shopping Cart Shows
0= Always
1= Only when full
2= Only when full but not when viewing the Shopping Cart

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

NOTE: get a clean checkout of Zen Cart v1.3.5 and learn to manage your site properly from the start with installing Zen Cart and then working on managing it for future upgrades ...

Fantasico is nice and helps out in many ways but it is not recommended for real shops that are going to real upgrades and run a real business in the real world because you are going to run into real trouble ...

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

Great advice.

First thanks for the dumbed down version explanation of the layout settings. I see now, it works, and is really cool! :D

I agree with you about Fantistico. I have never used it until today. I am an avid Joomla user and load them myself. I just wanted to see how easy ZenCart was and if there was an advantage over using VirtueMart or OSCommerce. So I did the one click install.

I like it so far.

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

Good luck with the cart ... I think you will really like it ... I know I do ... :smartass:

And yes, Fantastico is great for fast installs for a quick peek at new programs ... but I have a real hard time trusting something to "magically" upgrade, change, touch anything I spent days, weeks or months working on and try to make a living off of ...

Is the new version terribly different from the last version?

Re: Shopping cart. Where?

Conceptually things are the same, but many bugs are fixed and a number of important security fixes are included.
