Hotlinking images?

I have about 60,000 product images from a dropshipper that I need to pull from their site in our zen cart so they can keep me updated. Is this yet possible? In the archives of 2004 it said it was not an option at that time.

TIA!

Re: Hotlinking images?

Zen Cart does not link to product images from an external site, for two main reasons:

  1. other sites don't usually like you using 'their' bandwidth to display images on 'your' site ... esp since images are the largest traffic component on most sites.
  2. personal firewall software such as zonealarm and norton internet security, adaware, etc, typically block images that come from other websites, because that is the typical method by which banner ads are displayed. FireFox sometimes will even do this by default depending on its ad-blocker settings.

You'd be better off getting the images from your supplier on a periodic basis, or perhaps buy a program that will steal all the content+images from another (their) site, and use that to grab your supplier's images for your use ... assuming of course you are allowed to do that in your contracts with them. Then upload the desired images to your site as part of your product details.

Re: Hotlinking images?

Thank you. That does make sense. But... my problem lies with the CSV file that I am given to load does not reference the images to match them all up upon load. I had someone build me an add-on to the EP module - a generic populator. It worked but my images are not going to show. I do have a FTP access to the image files from the supplier but matching them up would be impossible. There are 60,000 products - otherwise I'd do this by hand. Any advice? You can see the cart here: https://www.onealsports.com/shop (it's not customized until this is fixed).
