Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

Hi.
I'm new to Zen Cart, and I'm having a problem with the Royal Mail shipping module. When I try a test buy, the cart tells me that an item which weighs 0.150kg in the product description weighs 3.150kg, and overprices the shipping costs as a result. It's like it's adding 3kg to the weight of an item, and then calculating the shipping cost.
I don't know php or css, so please go easy on me. I can follow instructions, though!
My shop address is: http://www.pets-express.co.uk/shop/

Hope someone can help.
Thanks,
Dave.

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

I think you'll find you need to go to Configuration / Shipping & packaging and change the Package Tare Small to Medium - added percentage:weight from 0:3. Leave it blank.

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

Thanks a lot Patski. Looks as if it's working nicely now. Now to attempt the Paypal setup. I'm amazed how easy the cart is to set up, apart from the weight thing. Maybe I'm speaking too soon.
Thanks again.

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

Well I've just set Paypal up, bought a collar from my own shop under a made-up name & it went through the Paypal process just like my eBay transactions do. Impressive cart!

What Royal Mail shipping module:huh: ....I can not find it in downloads. Like most UK companies I could do with a program for our multi layered postal system.

Thanks.

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

Evening,

I've released a full updated Royal Mail module which is available in the Download area of this website, it covers most services already including special delivery, with second class being added tonight.

It solves the problem of the 3KG weight, the original royalmail.php module was using a now outmoded way of calculating whether commas, or decimals were being used to display weights. I've also fixed the not being able to put whitespace in the country and weight/ price lists

Thank you

Philip.

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

Yep, will be working on it again tonight to add minimum and maximum order values, so that for example first class will stop at £32 which is the most the royal mail would pay you back in the event of a loss.

Might take a couple of days though, I think we're up to 14 services just offered by walking into a post office, not including parcelforce.

Thank you

Philip.

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

version 1.3 is now available for download here:

http://bouncing.org/big_royalmail_v1.3.zip

it covers the majority of royal mail services, and a template to remove shipping services from the checkout screen e.g. to not display Airmail services for someone in the UK, or to not display a service if the weight is too great/ little

Thank you

Philip.

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

Silly question, but where do I place the tpl_checkout_shipping_default file?

Also anyone had any problems loading the new big_royalmail, I seemed to have picked up some errors since loading up.

Warning: Variable passed to each() is not an array or object in /public_html/includes/classes/db/mysql/query_factory.php on line 114

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /public_html/includes/classes/db/mysql/query_factory.php:114) in /public_html/includes/functions/sessions.php on line 102

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /public_html/includes/classes/db/mysql/query_factory.php:114) in /public_html/includes/init_includes/init_templates.php on line 78

Ofcourse might not have any thing to do with the royalmail files.:dontgetit

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

Let's deal with the errors first, how did you install big_royamail_v1.3 did you upgrade or install straight, because those errors do not appear to be anything to do with the module

do a search on you system for tpl_checkout_shipping_default it may be under template_custom, template_default or it could be under a custom template directory, you may have multiple versions on your system, the trick is trying to work out which one is actually being used. I personally stick the word HELLO in html comments <!-- HELLO --> in each file until I find the write one. Back it up and replace it with the one provided.

Thank you

Philip.

Also thanks for help on the shipping file.

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything that would cause that in my things, it looks like some variable or object is being passed to the database query "parser" and that it's not set. My things have some queries when installing, updating and removing but don't then pass things to the database and back. Does it affect a particular part of the site ? it actually looks like it is before when the session is trying to be set. The session error is just normal after any mistake, but Zencart runs through some setting of session variables etc... before it then sends a session cookie to the browser. It may not be the session "per se" that is causing the error, but because of the cookie not being able to be sent because an error message is displayed as html (an php doesn't send cookie after it's started sending html), it is something before the session_start function.

There is another royal mail thread which I pay more attention to, if you'd like to pop over there if you have any more problems, my email is [email protected] although my time is somewhat err, limited,

Thanks Philip.

Re: Royal Mail shipping module adds 3KG to each item

Hi Philip

The Royal Mail module is superb.

Is it possible to use First class letter and first class packet....

I don't want the packet to show as an option if the total weight is 100g or under as that will fit in first class letter?

Then after 100g only the first class packet shoul show....

Thanks for any advice....

Jonathan (London)

Thank you Patski, that helped me too.

This problem is not just on the royal mail module, i don't use royal mail because its too much hassle dealing with them.

I use the pre installed table rate shipping, and I had the same problem!
