SSL required for paypal only sites?

So i use hosting from hostgator.com, and i was told if you only take paypal (which have ssl on checkout) it's ok not to have SSL for my zen-cart is this true?

Would i gain anything from having SSL with my cart with only taking payments from paypal? I was told by them it wouldn't help anything much, and be a waste of cash.

The thing that I have noticed is that customers dont like putting their name and address on a site without that little padlock

but is it really worth all the stinking ssl fee's?

For me it is,

If a customer closes the browser because they dont see the padlock thats lost revenue,

how many customers do you need to lose before you have covered the cost of the IP and the certificate

Is it simply a case of moving all files into a new folder to take advantage of the SSL then using something like Worldpay?

setting up SSL depends on the server setup.

Control panels like Plesk require you to have a complete set of files in the httpsdocs directory as well as inthe httpdocs directory,

Control panels like cpanel allow you to only have 1 set of files to control SSL and non SSL

You will need to contact your host to see how they handle SSL Purchase and install

Positive SSL and others like it are fine for secure login etc. But are not much protection for you as a shop owner. They use the same encryption engine and so forth.

So What is the catch...NO insurance in the event your site is the source of a customers CC# getting out. The slightly higher priced certs include various amounts of protection.

All this is is not an issue if you do not intend on processing via your site and use PayPal only. But if you are intending on having customers enter their CC info on your site, I recommend that you get the protection and the higher price.

If you only need login security then the low ball cert is sufficient.
