Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

Hi there!

I'm desperately searching for an e-commerce platform that will do all the things my client asks: gift certificates (standard!), gift wrap option (I think this is a unicorn, I swear) and the most important: wish list.

I've decided I like ZenCart for the PHP and CSS factors and have torn these forums following link after link on a wild goose chase for a wishlist module that works with the latest version.

Is this a Unicorn, too? I would think that a wishlist would be a standard feature now in modern e-commerce software.

Can someone give me an answer, definitively: does a wishlist module exist for ZenCart 1.3.5? And more importantly, does it work? If not, can you recommend a product that does include this feature?

I beseech you. Someone. Anyone. :) thank you!

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

Gift Certificates we got ...

Gift wrap ... I have written custom code for this in the past but have not perfected it well enough to add to Zen Cart at this time ...

WishList is on the list ...

There is, however, an add-on for that ... that will differ from what we will be adding in a future release but it may satisty your needs ...

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

I found one add-on and from the literature I've found it's not up to date for 1.3.5.

Does anyone know when this wishlist feature will be added to Zen Cart? I've seen threads that are quite old that say "it's coming in a future release". If it will be soon, then I may go ahead and use ZenCart, but the only add-on I've found is this one.

I've opened it up, but trying to figure out what i'm supposed to do with it makes me feel like I'm reading Chinese and hey, I don't know Chinese.

So. That's where I'm at with it.

What's this gift wrap you speak of? :)

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

I have been working on a giftwrap to handle various methods and needs ...

It is far from complete as I have no current customization projects needing it and have been working on other things ...

For some of these things that you need asap you could post in the Commercial Help wanted and see what is out there ... or wait until they get built into Zen Cart ...

mooncavecrystals ... strongly recommend upgrading to v1.3.5 ... there are an awful lot of bugfixes and security fixes that you are missing out on ...

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

Ajeh,
I am scared :) It appears I did not set up my_template folders correctly and fear I will lose all of my hard work (this css stuff is NOT my thang). The web dude which did this for me is away and there looks like there may be a substantial amount of coding to do which I am sooooooo not doing :)

I want to upgrade, but I just learned the basics like last week? ahahhaha
really, i am scared :)

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

Do a search on /new_shop

Should find a lot of examples on how to set up a test upgrade to walk through this ...

Similar thread above which contains details of wishlist for 1.3*

I had been to that link before and couldn't find any information. Its just a link that sends you to a thread with another link in it, that doesn't tell you anything else either! It just gives you more links.

Honestly, I'm not a big backend programmer and I just wish things were explained a little more clearly and not just assumed that I know what to put where, you know? Or given a link to a link to a link.

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

Ok. Now, this thread seems to share a little more.

And I guess what I'm looking for ultimately is a "gift registry", not just a wishlist. My client didn't mention that until last week, so now I'm trying to find a shopping cart program that offers the following:

gift wrap option
gift registry/wishlist
coupons/coupon codes
tell-a-friend
gift certificates

all while being easy to customize with CSS and that uses PHP so it can integrate into the rest of her site and is not just some cumbersome clunky hunk of ASP.

Someone help before I jump off a cliff? :shocking:

hehe. thanks!!

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

Yes, which is why I've chosen it. :) But I can't seem to get a gift registry or gift wrap modules, which is a real bummer, as those are popular requests among e-commerce shops.

Perhaps someone would be interested in writing the module for me or modifying existing modules to get them to work?

Please feel free to PM me if this is something someone might be interested in. I'm getting desperate here and I am willing to outsource to get the job done.

Thanks!!

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

Zencart member AFX114 announced a few months back that he had created a gift registry, got everone all excited, but never released it. It was about 6 months back. You might contact him (p.m. me if he is interested in selling the mod, maybe I can go in with you, I'm sure others here would be interested in the same). You can see it on his site, unfortunately I don't remember it. It was 'Branch' something and it sold organic or recycled furniture.

I'm not so much interested in the gift registry as an improved wishlist. The wishlist mod currently is great and has lots of nice features on top of the typical "wishlist" functionality. BUT the big drawback is it doesn't store attributes. The gift registry afx114 created does.

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

I did that, actually. And I sent him an email to see if they would be interested in helping us out. ;) We'll see what happen!

In the meantime, I've had to choose a pricey shopping cart software called ProductCart by Early Impact. They've just released a version using AJAX and it includes gift certificates, gift wrap and a gift registry standard, along with all the other features it needs. It'll have to do the job for now.

Thanks for all your help!

Ouch! Pricey is right! And every add on costs a fortune too!

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

You might want to checkout this site as they provide Gift Registry for Zen Cart. It actually worked flawlessly on our site when we used to have it. Obviously, the code to integrate it to Zen Cart 1.3+ might need modification. There used to be a contribution for this on the old forum.

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

This may work for some people's sites, I personally didn't like it because the code is not contained on your site and it is one more login/password your customer has to remember. I guess it didn't seem as professional as I would like.

Re: Wishlist for 1.3.5 - Yes or No?

Actually, if implemented correctly as well as using level 2/3 it works fine and customers do not have to leave your site. The key is copying the logging code as well as the Gift Registery code and integrating into your site (instead of just providing a link). When I had it, I used infopages to create a page within ZC. You MUST turn off htmlarea before copying the code otherwise it doesn't retain the code formating. Our customer never had to leave our ZC store to login to their registry.

Alternatively, you go sign up for the fully branded option which is much cheaper than the $1,000+ he's playing for another cart just for Gift Registry/Wish List option.
