Purple of Shades

Hello,

I up loaded my Zen Cart to my server, and I would like to change the Classic Template to Purple of Shades Template.

The instructions in the file content of Shades of Purple doesn't seem clear to me. I would assume that it has to loaded my server, but to be honest, I don't know what folder to place it in.

This is what I did:

I uploaded the Purple of Shades files in my htdocs/admin folder on my server, after that, I went to Admin. Logged on to Zen Cart and went to the Template section to edit the settings and it wasn't there.

I went back on my server to move the files in htdocs/download and after that loaded it. i wasn't able to log in at Admin. Zen Cart. I had to contact the web tech on my server and they fixed my login issue.

Now, I don't know what to do from here because if I load the Shades of Purple files again in another section on my server, assuming rather than asking. i might mess it up again.

I would appreciate if someone can lead me in a direction.

Re: Purple of Shades

Okay, we'll start from the beginning process...

Remove all the folders you have inserted into yourstore/admin and yourstore/downloads. ( Oh, just read a bit deeper and I'm assuming this was corrected)

On your desktop or where ever, you'd have the zip file of that template unzipped to a folder called "Zencart_3_1_Version"

Inside the above stated folder, the contents are a folder called "purpleshades" and a read me file. What you do from there is upload the folder "purpleshades" into yourstore/includes/templates . You'll see there are two folders in there already, classic and template_default, you will be adding a third... purpleshades. Then, go into Admin and it should acknowledge purpleshades. Reset the sideboxes and finish up with the included purpleshades install instructions. I've noticed that many people don't apply the proper sidebox widths and their layout looks like crap.

Re: Purple of Shades

Hello Sketchy

Thank you for coming in to help me. I appreciate it.

I up loaded all the purpleshades files to my sever, in the folder htdocs/includes/templates and it went in successfully on the Admin site.

But, now, I'm npt seeing the template. I followed all the instructions on the install text. I went in the tool section clicked on template selection, clicked on edit to see if it was there, it was. Then i selected it, pressed updated. Then I clicked on the tool section to go in the layout box control and clicked on the bottom to reset it. I went back to template selection and pressed preview and its not giving me a preview. I got this message.

Page not found
The page you are looking for might have been removed,
had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
Please try the following:

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

  • Click the Back button in your browser to try another link.
  • Use a search engine like Google to look for information on the Internet.
HTTP 404 - File not found

Then I found Two more Templates "Prettyinpink" and "Barebones". I uploaded those, because it had less files, did the above steps and it still doesn't preview. It's in there though.

I uploaded the files correctly, because my web host guided me this time, so I would not place the files in the wrong folder to cause my Admin page not to show again.

I think it has something to do on my Admin page.

Re: Purple of Shades

Hi Mellow. Could you post a link to your site so that we can prod it a little to test which files ended up where.

Re: Purple of Shades

Hello kuroi

The link is https://www.mellowgirlshoes.com

The shopping cart is not even being shown in the classic template. It looks weird. It has different colors on each side. I never saw that one in the download section for the Templates.

Re: Purple of Shades

That's default template. Usually, you can't see that layout... unless you have made an override template from the default template. I remember that layout all too well, from starting out on designs. With that layout, what is the current setting for template choice in your Admin?

Hmmm... in your mellowgirlshoes.com/includes/templates folder, what folders do you see in there or loose files?

Re: Purple of Shades

Hi Sketchy,

I have uploaded 2 more Templates to my server, besides Purpleshades. "Prettyinpink" & "Barebones"

Right now, I have it set to Purpleshades in template section.

In my htdocs/includes/templates/purpleshades folder,

You said "loose files", are those the files besides the images? If so the loose files are:

CSS_read_me.txt

How_To_Install.txt

layout_boxes.sql

print_stylesheet.css

stylesheet_new.css

template_info.php

tpl_box_default_left.php

tpl_box_default_right.php

tpl_box_default_single.php

tpl_box_header.php

file tpl_footer.php

tpl_header.php

tpl_modules_categories_tabs.php

I created a purpleshade folder in that section: htdocs/includes/templates

Its: htdocs/includes/templates/purlpeshades. Is that alright? I notice, like you said in the beginning that "i will see 2 folders a default folder and classic folder"

So, I created a purpleshades folder for that section. Do you think I should have left it the way it was, before making a folder?

Hi Sketchy,
Right now, I have it set to Purpleshades in template section.

That's the part that worries me that there is something wrong in the entire template directory. If the store is stating that it recognizes Purpleshades, but displays the default template... something has gone wrong. If all you have are custom templates, the layout you see, just shouldn't be showing. I know we probably have different servers and upload differently, but you mention 'htdocs' instead of a domain address upload.

Can you verify again the folders and folderless files present in your folder?;

/includes/templates/

There should be now, five seperate folders present;

classic, template_default, purpleshades, prettyinpink, and barebones

Do any one of them work, activated through Admin?

Re: Purple of Shades

It looks to me as though you have uploaded all the Purple Shade files into your htdocs/includes/templates/purpleshades directory, instead of preserving the directory structure in the template's release package.

As a result Zen Cart finds the template_info.php file, the only file that should be in this directory, and therefore acknowledges the existance of the template and allows you to select it. But when it tries to display it, it can't find any of the files that should be in sub directories such as common, css or images and so instead uses the template_default versions.

I recommend deleting your htdocs/includes/templates/purpleshades directory and then re-installing it preserving the directory structure - it will remain selected in Admin, so no need for changes there. Many good FTP programs (e.g. FileZilla, which is free) allow you to drag and drop who directory structures from your PC to your server leaving the hierarchy intact.

Yes, i have five folders in htdocs/includes/templates. The same Temps. you've mention above.

None of the 3 Temps I've added work on the Admin site. When I switch it back to

classic template that one works fine.

Should I upload it again?

This time I'll use prettyinpink, that has less files.

Re: Purple of Shades

I've been wandering around your site and peering in through the windows and can see no evidence that these files are there. Have you checked that they have uploaded properly? Could you tell us the full path name on your server to the logo.gif file in the purpleshades images directory?

I don't see a _info.php file in that directory. You said "preserving the directory structure" I have no clue of what your talking about. Sorry for the ignorance

But, I'm willing to learn, and I do catch on quick, so I'll smile for that one

I'll reload the files again. This time I'll use prettyinpink. I has less files.

Thank You

On my server, I see logo.gif file that's in the images file. I don't see a name.

Right now I'm still in the process of building my store. I want to change the Template

first, but for some reason I think time is being waisted, if I focus on this only. Can I work

on my site and then add the New Template later?

Thank You,

Re: Purple of Shades

Yes you can put products in. Good for taking a break from trying to get the template to work right. At least that stuff will end up in the Database where we can find it:wink2: and remember BACKUP

Re: Purple of Shades

Ok, I'm really new at Zen Cart.

That said, I discovered the hard way that there is more than one version of this out there. I managed to grab the wrong one and got nothing but error messages instead of a website. The version I found was missing at least one essential file for the version of Zen Cart that my web hosting service provided. Now, I thought I had the version of Purple that went with the version of Zen Cart that I had.

Anyway, the short verson is, if you can't get Purples Hades :D to work, make sure you have the right version...
