Can I mark a free item as pending?

Hi, thanks in advance for any help on this one.

My client wants to have a download item that is free only in certain circumstances that the software won't be able to discern. So I need something that a user can add to their cart, checkout without paying any money, and then get marked pending (just like you would for Check/Money Order). Then the client (after being notified of the order) will determine if the customer is deserving of the item and update the order to reflect the correct state so the customer can download or not at that point.

So is there a way that I can mark a free item as pending? I'm happy to go in to change the code, just not sure where this logic is happening.

Re: Can I mark a free item as pending?

And what about the folks that would like the freebie but aren't deemed worthy? I would be POed if I was denied...

Then begin the POedness, thou art not worthy...

They have to have participated in three previous classes, and these classes can happen online or offline, so only my client knows if they have completed the requirement.

@ Kim you make a valid point, but can I point out that it's a request that his client has asked him for, and lordy lordy do they demand the impossible/craziest things :-)

@masonn I have only returned to this forum/trying out zen cart after a long absence of at least 6 months : so this might not be correct but I believe you can only set "pending" at an order level at the moment rather than pick specific items for "pending".

nota: to all developers and contributers to changes over the last 6 months - WOW!!!

They have to have participated in three previous classes, and these classes can happen online or offline, so only my client knows if they have completed the requirement.

Then I would suggest, that you suggest to your client that their "bonus" be set up separately and the link be password protected so that he can then email them the link and password when they have completed the requirements.

Re: Can I mark a free item as pending?

Thanks, Kim. That's may be what we end up with if I can't mod the code correctly. I guess I should point out one other unusual thing about this site that I'm working on. Money isn't the only cost of these items, there also must be an exchange of red envelopes as it's a feng shui practice when exchanging teachings (all of the products are downloadable mp3's of classes).

So all of the items (which are all downloads) are marked as pending or processing even after money is exchanged. Then my client waits for the red envelopes to arrive and marks the items as updated so the customer can download the classes.

So I currently mark any transaction, even paypal or credit card, as processing; so if i could just make the default state of any transaction as pending, then that would take care of my problem. I'm just don't know where in the code this could be set.

Thanks.

Interesting, practice.

All of the payment modules have the ability to set the status. Have a peek in the Admin> Modules> Payment

Re: Can I mark a free item as pending?

Thank you, but that's just the problem, there's no payment because it's free. All of the other modules are set to pending/processing, but if they add an item with no monetary cost (no price and no shipping), then it's just given to them. I can't set that up as pending since it doesn't require any of the payment modules.

Oh well, it's looking like this may be a special case...

Thanks.

Re: Can I mark a free item as pending?

Oh duh. I didn't have to mod anything. It actually gets set to 'processing' when it's free, all I had to do was go to Configuration/Attribute Settings/Downloads Controller Order Status Value >= lower value and set it to 3 so that only items that were past 'processing' would allow download.

Sorry to waste board space.

Love you ZenCart, I'll donate more money.

Re: Can I mark a free item as pending?

Be careful ... orders status 4 Update is hard coded to make changes to downloads to reset the downloads for those who ran out of times or attempts ...

You can reset this value from 4 to another value to reset ... if necessary ...
