Customers unable to login OR create new account

Well, I've tried linkedla changes also, but Firefox still refuses to let anyone get past the state dropdown issue.

What I don't understand is where the state dropdown comes from. It's not there on the first sign-up attempt, it only shows up after you submit. It becomes a state dropdown, with a plain box next to it with the state abbreviation that was put in it initially.

Re: Customers unable to login OR create new account

An update to my problem about not being able to create new accounts in Firefox.

I now have 2 v1.35 sites with the same problem. So far the steps taken to try and track down the error/issue:

  1. Used the developer tool in admin to locate which files contained the text "pull down" due to the error statement being: Please select a state from the States pull down menu. Then I performed the search in my directory of mods installed on each site (I keep a copy of all mods installed on each site in the sites local folder).

There were 3 files that ended up with the search results. They were the includes/functions/html_output.php (from the Ultimate SEO mod), includes/languages/custom/english.php. and the readme in the Image Handler mod.

This still did not resolve the issue as one of the sites has the SEO mod installed, and the other site has the image handler mod installed, but neither have both.
Plus the Image Handler reference to the html_output.php file was only in the readme. I turned off the SEO mod and results were the same.

  1. I turned off the State dropdown box in both Admins, yet when the error occurs after form submission, it is on when the error message comes back.

  2. I can only make a successful account creation in Firefox if after receving the error messages, I change both the dropdown and the text state field to a different state than was originally entered.

I tried this with several states, all with the same end results.

  1. I have uploaded all files having to do with the log-in process from a fresh copy of v1.35.

I've added the server specs and details below for both stores-

The specs on the site that had the error noticed first:

Re: Customers unable to login OR create new account

(sorry for the add-on to the above post, however when talking to my other half about the issue I remembered the first thing I did tonight which may have a bearing on the error)

  1. The first time I went in with Firefox tonight to again try to create an account,
I didn't see an option for the state at all, no dropdown or text field. I remembered that genabit had been trying to track down the issue also, so assumed he had turned the state requirement off in Admin.

When I went into the config in admin, the state dropdown box option was turned on, even though it wasn't showing up on the account creation form. I turned it off and when I went back to the create account page, the text field was there.

So in summary, with the state dropdown on, no state field shows up in the create account form. When it is turned off, the state text field returns. When the form is submitted the state missing error appears as does the dropdown and the text field.

Re: Customers unable to login OR create new account

As of now this issue seems to have been resolved (crossing fingers and toes, knocking wood, and hiding from my two black kitties!)

I can't say for sure what was the final fix, as I did 2 things before re-testing after the last error message.

  1. Re-uploaded (again) from a new fileset, all files with titles that included the terms: login, create account, etc.

  2. Logged into Admin-->configuration---->Customers and:

a. turned off the State field and left the dropdown at false.

b. Opened the store in another window and verified there was no option for state showing.

c. kept the state requirement at false and the dropdown to true

d. refreshed create account screen and the state field was still missing.

e. in Admin, turned state requirement to true and left dropdown to true.

f: after refreshing the create account screen again, for the first time the state dropdown was there, plus next to it the state text box which was grayed out.

From this point forward, all account creation attempts made in Firefox were successful. Just to make sure I used a different state with each test.

Once satisfied with the Firefox results, I created an account in IE just to make sure that still worked, and it did :smartass:

So I am hoping this issue can be permanently checked off on my "todo list". If not, I'll be back
