How to add tabs for backgrounds

OK I want a Tab labeled backgrounds, that when a person click on that tab will show small images that can be clicked and enlarged of all the background options.
I have all the backgrounds in a certain folder, and would like all images that are FTP'd into that folder to show up automatically.

Can anyone step by step get me through this?

Background images that people can see so they can choose the background they want on their poem from a drop down menu.
