Can't get Gift Certificats working

I have Zen Cart 1.3.0.2
I just started trying to use this and know nothign about php/

I will ONLY be selling gift certificates to my Day Spa.

I looked at and followed teh directions in teh FAQ for gift certificate and followed what it said.

As a test, I set one item with a price of ZERO so that I wont have to go through the credit card stuff.

Anyway, it just goes though the process of buying something. Doesn't say anythign about sendign it somewhere, to some one, or anything.

I am completly lost.

Please help!!

What I am trying to do, is have it so that visitors to my website can purchase a gift certificate for thier friends. I run a Day Spa so these Gifts would be for various massages.

Anyway,

I can not seem to find out how to make this happen at all.
I see on the store from in teh lower left hand corner there is an area named Gift Certificate FAQ. I have read those several times, but on parts that it refers to, I can't find. Like on how to send a gift cert to a friend, how to even create one.

It's driving me nuts.

So I need a step by step on how to create a gift cert, then have a customer, buy one and send it to whomever.

I read teh Gift Cert FAQ in the FAQ section here and that didn't seem to help at all.

ok, ill run this by you. i think i know what your talking about now.

first thing - this gift cert system is setup to be a virtual system. meaning that a person would BUY a cert and then it would be released into there online account, from there they could use it themself, OR EMAIL it a friend family member.

i believe that you want them to be able to download a .pdf or like file that looks like a cert, so they can use it in your day spa, correct?

in that case, i wouldnt really use gift cert functions, but i would setup DOWNLOADABLE products to sell your customers...

this way, they pay for a cert, and they can download it, from there they can send it to there friends for use at your day spa...

this is one way i can see the system working as you want it to. but as i said, this system really isnt ment for what your looking to do.

Actaully, either way I think would work. You said one way they could email it to a friend.
But having it as a downloadable item would work great too.
I'm not trying to do anything to complicated.

Can you give me an idea on how to do either option you suggested?
