image instead of subcategories listing

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Instead of having the name of the subcategories listed in the main column when a category is clicked on, is there a way to put an image there instead? I would like a different image for each category.

You mean in the center of the shop or in the Categories sidebox?

I was hoping to do something of this sort, having images for clickable links, rather than just words.......and Yes, it would be in the main body, although, not the "home page"
Also, would it be possible to have a alternating / slideshow type of thing coursing through the entire folder of pics?

I can explain!
I started building the website with my NVU program, then signed up with my host, Powweb.
and then started to use some of their programs.
Currently I have Joomla, Zen-cart and gallery2 (which was G1, migrated)

I crippled along reading and trying to figure out things, ask a few Q's here and there, but haven't got it right at all yet. With learning, I do much better with visuals, as well as step-by step, with simplified language -- JUST like the ScreenBooks...............

MY original idea, plan and hope was to have a welcoming page, one clicks on either the fireplace pic or the verbage c'mon in and set a spell.....to "enter" the second page, which is a cobblestone "street" with vintage style storefronts......enhanced in the "windows" of these stores, would be the random highlight photo .................

At the moment something is off as any page but the main page comes up as no database connected ...

Not surprising.....I DID say it was an obscene mess...none of the three listed above are a complete work....
however, if any of the "important links" are clicked on, it opens into the G2 catalog...

i don't want a different image for each category, just rather one background image that shows up in the main column that is different for each category that is selected...

Sometime after you've got your database reconnected, you may want to review the /docs/readme_css_system.html file in your /docs folder, which explains how to set up different stylesheets for individual categories. Then you could set a different background-image to appear in the center section, simply using CSS. But, you can't do any of that until you have a working database containing real categories with some products in them.

Thanks Dr. Byte. Never knew you could have all the different style sheets. So, if the page that I would like to change the background image is index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1, would I just name the new stylesheet index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1.css and make the new changes there?

No.

You're attempting to change for a certain "category", right?

Thus, this part applies:> c_??.css --- changes to all info pages in a category

In other words c_1.css would be for category 1 ... or perhaps you might read it as cPath 1

is there a way to add a regular image using the css, so that I can add some sort of link to the image when clicked?
