Width of NavColumnOne and NavColumnTwo

How do I change the width of these items?

here is my CSS:
#navColumnOne {
background-color: #fff;
width:10px;
}

I cant seem to change its width whatsoever.

You can change the width in:

admin -> configuration -> layout settings

To anybody looking at this thread, 3 years on from the original posts...

there are two settings in Admin->Configuration->Layout Settings to which you should pay attention when setting widths for left and right columns.

At the top of the page there is "Column Width" for both left and right boxes.

Several rows down there are settings for "Column Width" for left and right - that is, the column which wraps around the left and right boxes.

If you're not getting the results you wanted, make sure you have the widths for the boxes and the width for the columns set correctly!
