Turn off Item qty in stock?

How can I "turn off" the attribute that controls wether the item is in stock?

I neeed it so that :

-when loading a product I don't have to enter the number in stock
-the item page doesn't show how many in stock
-the item page does not change from "add this to your basket" to "not in stock"

I would also like to know how to turn of the line underneath the item indicating when it was added to the catalogue

   Admin->Catalog->Product Types->Product General->Edit Layout
   Change the settings as desired. Quantity in Stock and Date Added are some of the many options available there.

2. You also have some other stock-level controls in Admin->Configuration->Stock

I don't think I'm an idiot, so something must be going on... I have use these screens over and over and cannot get the stock level indication on the product page to go away! Do all of the admin area features work with all browsers on all platforms? I'm using Firefox on Mac.

I have the show Quantity in Stock set to "0", but it still says "
0 Units in Stock" on the products page. I also have a few other things that don't seem to want to go away, like "Starting at:" on the page even though I told the store to not show it.

Is there a step I'm missing to 'activate' my changes (that maybe isn't showing in my browser)?

ANY help would be appreciated as I'm about ready to give up on Zen Cart.

I had another thought on the issue, but haven't had a chance to try anything yet (while operating two other businesses). I set the store up initially via a Fantastico interface, and then realized I should check for updates. During the updating process there were some settings for file protections. Maybe I need to go back and mess with those settings because the changes I make to the store are no longer being implemented in the store?

Yes, I get the instruction, but something more is going on. The settings appear right, but somehow whatever I am doing in the store is not showing up on the live site.

Since nobody has offerred a solution, I guess I'll just go into the cpanel and start messing around to try and see if permissions were messed up...

You will need to adjust my instructions in #1 to accomodate the product type you've used for the product you created.

In this case, your Business Card product was created as a "Product Free Shipping" product-type item. Thus, you need to edit the "Product Free Shipping" product type settings to not show quantity in stock.

There is the flag for Always Free Shipping when adding/editing a Product ...

There is the Product Type Product - Free Shipping ...

The difference are:

1 Always Free Shipping is set by default

2 You could customize the product _info for:
tpl_product_free_shipping_info_display.php

And make your Product - Free Shipping Products look totally and radically different from your regular Product - General ...

Change the information displayed on the page for Product - Free Shipping so that they don't show weight, etc. with a switch setting vs code ....

It is an example of a Product Type where the same database table(s) are used that are used in Product - General but can be separately customized ...

quick question related to the original post -

i like the fact that it says "in stock" or "out of stock", but is it as simple as editing the tpl_product_info file to get rid of the numbers and replace them with an image? For example, if its in stock a small green check mark would be there instead of the number, and if its out of stock there would be a red X. Thanks for your time!
