Re: How to add pages to define page status?

TShooters:

There's an About Us contribution in the downloads here:
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&cPath=40_47&products_id=182

I've been struggling to make any sense of a load of threads & posts sort of covering this topic, most of which don't mention the need to create files in /modules/pages.

Thanks to whoever wrote the "About Us downloads" contribution, you have saved my life :clap:

Only minor comment is that the file /includes/modules/sideboxes/MYTEMPLATE/information.php might already exist - because I've added 'About us' and now I'm adding a 'Cooking hints' page), so might need to edit it rather than create/overwrite it.

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

Ok, I am a complete and utterly lost newb to Zen-cart. I was simply trying to make changes to the first page that comes up on the site with "Sales Message Goes Here" and or "Tagline Here". I used Dreamweaver to make the changes. when i was finished i couldn't get my web site to come up at all. i called my host and they told me that i needed to "name my main_page 'INDEX.HTML' in the root directory. OK GREEK! i have absolutely no clue what anyone is talking about. Completely frustrated!!!! any and all help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!:frusty:

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

Hi there

i've looked and looked without success for a way to add new pages to the define pages editor. I want to be able to add more pages that will show up in the same sidebox as page 2, page 3, page 4. but i don't know how to do it. Can anyone out there give me a list of the files i would need to change in order to add as many pages as i wish, i have already found out a way to change the name of these pages to display whatever i wish (eg: page 2 = course fishing)

I wait hopefully

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

I did it customizing the "About Us" contribution, found in the downloads area.
There is another contrib. based on that one, you will have to mess around with both.

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

Hi again, thanks for the help so far, seems everything works out when i follow your advice. back to the defien pages editor, i found a define_pages_generator in the downloads section of zencart, i can't really pick up on the use of it, for instance it says to create a new file in your chosen template, i did this but it doesn't show up, niether can i find it in the folder i created it in.

This is what it says about using the product::

DefinePagesGenerator for Windows XP takes the hassle out of creating
new define pages, by generating the core files neccesary for a define
page to function and putting them in the correct ZenCart directory
structure

Can yoou give me any idea as to what is the correct zencart directory to actually use when creating new files

I'd be most grateful for your neverending advice

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

I never used that contrib. so cannot help you there.
Try the "About Us", should work fine, it is the mother of all contribs. for define pages.

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

I'm working on this now. I downloaded and unzipped the About Me info. I'm getting confused on the uploading to the server part. Do I put each file into each path/whatever?

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

No, not whatever.
Just follow the folder structure in the contrib. taking care of renaming MY_TEMPLATE to your actual template name.
My suggestion is that you first follow the steps in the Zen Cart manual and create a test site.
You simply drop the includes folder (after renaming template) to the root and accept changes.

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

AHH! I've figured it out now, the define pages generator creates a group pf folders with the correct pages created for adding new defines, all i had to do was copy them into my own directory and there they were, as many new pages as i wanted.

Great,Thanks for the help

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

Hi There

You'll find the Define_pages_generator here at this link

http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=contrib_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=define+pages+generator

this is, as you can see, available from the zen-cart downloads page,
Careful using this though, it will create a new folder on your desktop in which you will see the new pages you have generated, you will have to move those pages into your templates overide following the directory tree created. (the folders in the new directory on your desktop to the folders in your zen-cart installation.

It could be a case that you might also have to edit a page in your zen-cart setup, all is explained in the readme for the pages generator

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

I had to revert back to the original site. Boss lady is very upset. And I'm not sure how to fix this.
Any advise?

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

We have no idea what exactly you were doing based on the limited description of the problem ...

One thing you may want to get is the Debug Tool from the Free Software Add Ons ...

Most likely you have a typo in one of the language files or some blank space at the beginning or ending of the file ...

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

Ajeh:

If you add the define files correctly, with a copy in the:
/includes/languages/english/html_includes

And your real files in the:
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/your_template_dir

These are auto loading and self building on the Define Page Editor ... in other words ... not extra coding required to add them ... :smile:

Great tip, really, as a newby, for a try, I used page 4 of the original site and made it page 5, uploaded to my remote site, given permissions, it shows and opens as page 5 in the Tools>Define pages Editor.
Opened it, clicked "Save".
One small problem, when I return to the site the "More information" list is still down to "Page 4".
No "Page 5"
Please, what have I forgotten doing?
Thanks for the help!

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

In your templates and overrides did you add to the more_information.php something similar to:

  if (DEFINE_PAGE_4_STATUS <= 1) {
    $more_information[] = '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_PAGE_4) . '">' . BOX_INFORMATION_PAGE_4 . '</a>';
  }

for your page 5 ...

Did you define:
DEFINE_PAGE_5_STATUS

somewhere to manage this?

Hi Linda,

thanks for your prompty answer.
For a newby playing with basic features it is great help.
I decided I'd follow your advice and most of all, DO IT RIGHT.
Well, almost...
**
From Developers Tool Kit**

1.) UPDATE = STORE/includes/modules/sideboxes/more_information.php

ADDED LINES =
  if (DEFINE_PAGE_5_STATUS <= 1) {

    $more_information[] = '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_PAGE_5) . '">' . BOX_INFORMATION_PAGE_5 . '</a>';

  }
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.) CREATED PAGE 5 FROM
STORE/includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_page_4_default.php

ADDED FILE = /tpl_page_5_default.php as follows:
<?php

/**

 * Page Template

 *

 * @package templateSystem

 * @copyright Copyright 2003-2005 Zen Cart Development Team

 * @copyright Portions Copyright 2003 osCommerce

 * @license <http://www.zen-cart.com/license/2_0.txt> GNU Public License V2.0

 * @version $Id: tpl_page_5_default.php 3464 2006-04-19
00:07:26Z ajeh $

* (was it you, Linda?)
* :D

 */

?>

<div class="centerColumn" id="pageFive">

<h1 id="pageFiveHeading"><?php echo HEADING_TITLE; ?></h1>

<?php if (DEFINE_PAGE_5_STATUS >= 1 and DEFINE_PAGE_5_STATUS <= 2) { ?>

<div id="pageFiveMainContent" class="content">

<?php

/**

 * require the html_define for the page_5 page

 */

  require($define_page);

?>

</div>

<?php } ?>

<div class="buttonRow back"><?php echo zen_back_link() . zen_image_button(BUTTON_IMAGE_BACK, BUTTON_BACK_ALT) . '</a>'; ?></div>

</div>

3.) UPDATED = STORE/includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_site_map_default.php
ADDED =
<?php if (DEFINE_PAGE_5_STATUS <= '1') { ?>

            <li><?php echo '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_PAGE_5) . '">'
. BOX_INFORMATION_PAGE_5 . '</a>'; ?></li>

<?php } ?>

         </ul></li>

     </ul>
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I said *"almost"*
:blush:
because this is what I'm, getting:

**THIS IS FROM: main_page=FILENAME_PAGE_5**

![](http://930slantnose.com/main_page=FILENAME_PAGE_5.jpg)
-
**-THIS IS FROM: main_page=site_map**
-
![](http://930slantnose.com/main_page=site_map.jpg)

Sure I made an error, possibly of a silly kind, but which?

Thanks for your patience...

Re: How to add pages to define page status?

There is a module in the Free Software Add Ons tab above to add 3 pages to the More Information sidebox.

Compare the files there with what you have done to see what is missing (filenames.php edited for your new page?)
