JAVA Menu

I am trying to make my site as seamless as possible between the HTML and Zencart portions. However,I am using a JAVA menu (HVMenu from DynamicHTML) and it works fine in the HTML portion of my site but not properly in the Zencart portion. I have added ..//my template/javascript, renamed my scripts exmplemenu.var.js (variable file) and menu.js(main file) with the preface 'jscript.'. (IE jscript.menu.js) Without anything other mods, the menu does display on the Zencart pages with some of the variables there but the backgrounds are transparent and there are no colors. What am I doing wrong? Is there another file I should be putting these scripts into?

My main site is https://www.orendaflutes.com and my Zencart is https://www.orendaflutes.com/zencart

Thanks, Dave

Re: JAVA Menu

Where are you placing these menus? It is not in your tpl_header.php file as navigation. What file or where called from

Re: JAVA Menu

The only place I have put the files is in templates/my_template(which happens to be called 'brown'/jscritp They are called jscript_emplmenu_var.js and jscript_menu_com.js For some reason it works but with the problems as listed above.

Should I put them in the tpl_header file too/instead? Should I go back to their regular names?

Re: JAVA Menu

In my HTML section the exmplmenu_var.js file is supposed to go in the body secton of my index.html while the menu_var.js stays in the root.

Re: JAVA Menu

I would experiment with placing these in the nav section of the tpl_header-php file:

<script type='text/javascript'>//HV Menu v5.411- by Ger Versluis (http://www.burmees.nl/)//Submitted to Dynamic Drive (http://www.dynamicdrive.com)//Visit http://www.dynamicdrive.com for this script and morefunction Go(){return}</script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='exmplmenu_var.js'></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='menu_com.js'></script>

You can later move the nav section around as desired once you get the menus functioning as designed.

I do not have an install infront of me now but I recall that there is a location for js items, you should place them in this locale and you would have to adjust the src call to point to this location

Use the override system

Re: JAVA Menu

I have tried all over the place in tpl_header.php with no difference in results. My tpl_header is in my my_template(brown)/common directory. Is this right?

The menu works without changing the names and by putting the originally named files in the jscript directory and it does work but I still can't get any graphics.

Is there a file with a 'head' section that it should go in?

I have tried this and every combination that I can think of...still doing something wrong?

Re: JAVA Menu

Bradd,

Try the code as posted:

<script type='text/javascript'>

//HV Menu v5.411- by Ger Versluis (http://www.burmees.nl/)
//Submitted to Dynamic Drive (http://www.dynamicdrive.com)
//Visit http://www.dynamicdrive.com for this script and more

function Go(){return}

</script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='exmplmenu_var.js'></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='menu_com.js'></script>
<noscript>Your browser does not support script</noscript>

Placing the js in the correct folder

Re: JAVA Menu

I added exactly (copy and paste) what you sent to the tpl_header and tried it and it works but the background is still transparent in the Zencart portion. I then pointed the examplmenu_var and menu_com SRC to the jscript folder like this;

<div id="navMainWrapper"> <div class="navMainSearch forward"><?php require(DIR_WS_MODULES . 'sideboxes/search_header.php'); ?></div> <script type='text/javascript'> //HV Menu v5.411- by Ger Versluis (<http://www.burmees.nl/>) //Submitted to Dynamic Drive (<http://www.dynamicdrive.com>) //Visit <http://www.dynamicdrive.com> for this script and more function Go(){return} </script> <script type='text/javascript' src='/zencart/includes/templates/brown/jscript/exmplmenu_var.js'></script> <script type='text/javascript' src='/zencart/includes/templates/brown/jscript/menu_com.js'></script>

<noscript>Your browser does not support script</noscript>

Because I found that it was reading the original file in the main folder and the zencart exmple_var is different. Now it points to the right java files but the background is still transparent.

The // in the above is a comment indicator and these lines are then ignored as intended...

I do not understand what you are referring to when you state "pointed"

I did notice that on your html site > select accessories > Buffalo Sprit -Bone Jewlery...and then the menu is also transparent. So this appears to be something in the js and not due to ZenCart...

Also, as applied to the cart...it is transferring to the html pages with no return path and the base reason that I have recommended that you bring all of this over into the cart to have a central source and maintenance point. Each of these pages can be created with ezpages in the cart where the cart header remains as the focal point for all navigation.

Re: JAVA Menu

You are correct with naming convention (jscript_menu_com.js) and you have them placed correctly (src='/zencart/includes/templates/brown/jscript/menu_com.js').

Have you adjusted this line in the jscript_exmplmenu_vars.js to reflect the path to the images?

var Arrws=['tri.gif',5,10,'tridown.gif',10,5,'trileft.gif',5,10];	// Arrow source, width and height

cause it appears its not finding the images on the zencart side

Re: JAVA Menu

barco57,

Re: JAVA Menu

ok I just did a compare between the html site and the zen site using both IE and FF.:shocking: very much broken in FF, less so in IE. The html side works fine in IE, but as kobra said some of the links render tranparent in FF. Its gotta be some sort of javascript problem with FF. I have had problems with some scripts crashing FF, don't know why. I'm no javascript programmer.:lamo:

Re: JAVA Menu

barco57,

Good catch!!! I did not view in IE...and yes the html site appears to function correctly there...Still need to determine why & how to render correctly in FF and other more compliant browsers before having a chance at including in ZC.

Re: JAVA Menu

I have a copy of the menu and exmplemenu in the root folder of my website. Even if I out them in the includes/templates/brown/jscript folder they werent being called. So I 'pointed the SRC in the tpl_header.php (as shown in the quote I sent you) to the jscript folder and it picks up the new exmplemenu file and executes that instead of the one in the root. They are different variables.

You are right and thanks for the catch on the HTML portion of the menu. There must be something wrong there and I'll try to fix that and see what happens.

Later to update you,
Bradd

Re: JAVA Menu

I fixed the html code on the buffalo spirit and wood spirit pages in the HTML section and it works properly again. I didn't change the exampl_menu or menu_com at all so the menu should still work properly in the zencart section but is still transparent.

Re: JAVA Menu

no as no class or id's are named in the script. I think the problem on the zen cart side is the way you are including it. The instructions the come with it are for html pages. I have just added this script to my local machine 1.3.5 demo setup and it works fine in FF. The only thing I did was copy and rename (add the jscript_) the 2 script files to the includes/templates/default_template/jscript folder. Nothing else! Do not add the other code to the tpl_ files. Then I went into the variable script and made the adjustments for horizontal vs vertical and background colors and position. The better way for this script to work would be for it to be rewritten to have a class, so that you could do the positioning with the style sheet instead of embedded as it is now. Hope this helps.

Re: JAVA Menu

Two weeks ago I have the menu running exactly like this..no addition to tpl_header and just changed the files to 'script_' but the background is still transparent. I just tried it again and the same thing is happening.
