Layout questions, Thanks

Hi All
I have bunch of questions on layout customization.
First, can I change the sidebox (either left or right) header's height and width? how?
Second, can I customize the first page when you click on the shopping site? Right now, it's like "Congratulations...". Also, can I put image on that part? How?
Third, how can I manage those banners?
