Why doesn't my store run locally ?

I copied my entire store to a local server. When I try to access it, I get "zc_install/index.php not found" I don't have an zc_install folder. My hosts installation program didn't leave one.
I tried editing the 2 configure.php files to paths that relate to my local server, and set a servername in apache, but still no luck.

All of the tips I've read/found discuss install locally and moving to host. I'd like to move my store/work from my host, to my local server.

Please help a newbie

Re: Why doesn't my store run locally ?

I also had problems getting my shop to run locally when I was first starting out. It is so long ago I can't remember the finer points but in my case it was the path details in the config files.

I found the easiest way to solve it was to do a new local install and then compare these config files to your host's and edit accordingly.

Your host likely removed the zc_install directory because it's a security risk to leave it. Imagine if I was able to access zc_install/index.php and to reconfigure your store? Copying a store from one server to another shouldn't require the zc_install directory.

On your local machine, you mention that you have Apache setup. Are you able to access other local sites? Do you have MySQL setup using the same database/host/username/password, etc., as are specified in your config files?

I need no warrant for being, and no word of sanction upon my being. I am the warrant and the sanction.

To know your local pathway all you need to do is to follow the trail from the C drive to the htdocs or www folder - and that's your pathway.

Re: Why doesn't my store run locally ?

yeah sounds like you just need to edit your config files.

admin configure.php, edit the paths to reflect your local server, eg define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://127.0.0.1'); etc, etc.. set SSL to false.

also in the define database connection, if you used the default mysql setup you'll need to use: define('DB_SERVER_USERNAME', 'root'); (root being the default). You'll need to make sure the database name is correct, password, etc.

The last line in that file: define('DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE' use the same path from httpd config file in apache2 setup, store directory/cache');

In the includes/configure.php do the same things.

If you got as far as you did I think php is probably working, but if not do a test page by putting <?php phpinfo() ?> between body tags, save it as test.php, put it in the document root directory (as per httpd config) and it should display the php info.

Re: Why doesn't my store run locally ?

Thanks for the responses, I'm going to start over with a full install. Then I'll try substituting my 'live' data to the new install.

Again,

Thank you all for the replies !!!!!!!!!
