noob needs help installing and setting up... PLEASE !!

hey all,

ok new here and apologies for being a bit of a n00b, but here it goes...

I want to install Zen Cart on a local server before commencing trading. This will mean that I can get all my products installed and the templates just so, I can then back up everything and send it to a remote host and go live with the website.

To do this I will need a networked server, or can I install on a local computer.

I have tried to find a list of requirements for Zen Cart, but I can't seem to find anywhere. (hopeless aren't i!) I do have a spare box lying around that I can install Windows Server onto, but what else will it require.

Has someone already posted a guide to installing that goes through everything in simple steps (so someone who doesn't really know what they are doing can follow). I want to kinda get this right!

can I install on a local computer
Yes.. install/try first http://www.apachefriends.org/en/index.html which is Free
or I use http://www.sokkit.net/pragmacms/index.php?layout=main&cslot_1=2 which is not free
