Zen-Cart as a bookStore - Help required

Hi

First of all the people who will be using this system are average computer users a they are not Gurus or novices but I would like to keep it simple

They have a bookstore, their inhouse system is an old DOS based system, the output from this (tab delimited file) will be used to update the webprices via easy populate? ()

Now as it is a bookstore I will be doing the following

Using the model number as ISBN
Using Manufacturer as Publisher

But I can't find where i could put
Authors,
edition
published date
etc
I don't want them as part of the description, i need someway of adding these fields and still be able to update using easypopulate or a simple update method

And the most crucial thing the ISBN number is the most important thing, as this is what the dos based system works from, so can easy populate work using the ISBN (model number) rather than the product ID

Thanks for that, I had previously tried looking for the Book Product Type in the downloads section but couldn't find it anywhere, and i still can't, it doesn't appear to be under the product type section, so if you could provide mwe a link to it that would be cool

I also need to be able to do a ISBN(model) search in both admin and the store Is there a plugin for this? and what heading would it be under

The other thing i have just been told is the people using this want an events calendar that will display some events on the front page, i have a feeling i will need a third party package for this though

Do you still need to install the image handler package, to auto generate thumbnails for products or is it included now?

Kim's right that this ought to be in the downloads area, but for some reason it was never submitted. It can be found from the link at the top of this thread and there are further enhancements referred to in the thread itself.

Image Handler is not part of the core Zen Cart code, but can be found in the downloads section.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Products Type Books was actually located in the products types?

Can anyone throw a bone in my direction? It appears that there are 2 product type books threads.

1. The moku thread (The last version is available here: Product Type Book (product_type_book-moku-v?.?-YYYY-MM-DD) (both Zip and Tar.bz2 should be available) )

and

2. The Justin K (jazzy.jus) product type book. Tutorial-Article 114 The articles says the Books product type is available from the Downloads area. Alas ... :no: .

The links at the top of the thread are old and don't work. But those later on such as in hareslades sig do. For some reason he has chosen to maintain that on his own site instead of in the downloads area. To save you time, you can get it here.

The tutorial is a bit old now too. So some of the details may not be spot on, but the principles are still valid.

Please remember that this is a community forum made up mainly of users helping other users, so it won't always be bang up to date and perfectly organized. But it's also a darned sight more helpful and responsive than the forums based around most commercial packages.

It was just a little frustrating trying to find the right or most recent working download link. In fact, hareslades seems to have dropped that URL.

Anyway, got it and am having fun installing and dealing with other language issues.

This is a very comprehensive module. I'm busy setting up a bookshop for a client HERE (still in demo mode, but it works well.)
