category min qty/mix match

Going crazy. Candle shop. I set categories with discounts for quanity price breaks. However, I want a sampler pack of candles, minimum quantity of 12 candles but customer can pick from over 100 scents.

I set up a category: Singles Sampler

I added product 1 and product 2.

What do I set to allow the customer to choose 4 of product 1 and 8 of product 2 and checkout

but,

if they a total of less than 12 products in the category they get an error?

I have read until my eyes hurt. Desperate for help!

https://www.chandlerlane.com is the site. And, honestly, I will send a free candle (and trust me, it will be the best scented candle you ever tried!) to the first one that can give me my fix. Step by step...

Re: category min qty/mix match

Ajeh may have some tricks up her sleeve, but from my recollection, the mix/match feature works at the product level, not up at the category level ...

That said, perhaps combining it using attributes for the color-selection might be the workaround for you ...

Re: category min qty/mix match

My biggest blessing in the all-that-is would be that Ajeh loves candles and would trade skills for product... In the meantime all I can do is add my category as the Singles Sampler and strongly strongly strongly encourage a 12 quantity mix and match minimum...

Thank you much!

Re: category min qty/mix match

You may need to drop the sampler to 6 vs 12 but that really doesn't alleviate much of the problem.

Let me attack part of it as Ajeh taught me. This example concerns your wicks.

It's a minor comment on the home page that may be extremely important to the customer. Hoping the customer remembers to mention the type of wick in the comments will get you some unhappy customers who forgot to "pick a wick". So, let's add an option name of Wick and add three option values. Pick a Wick, Standard, and Self-Trimming. We make the option value of Pick a Wick to have an order of 0 and set the Attribute Flags to yes across the board. The other two would have the N Y N Y Y Y Flags set. They can be in whatever order you want. If the standard is most-used, set it's sort order to 10 and the self-trimming to 20. I like to leave some space in the sort order for future additions.

You can copy this to all votives and it will cause the customer to make a decision on the wick with each candle they purchase. No more "but I wanted self-triming."

Simplest of all for the sampler is simply asking the customer to put the twelve scents in the comments. To me, the possibility of messing up is too great.

The Pick a Wick procedure could be done with the sampler but, you would have Option Names Sent1, Scent2, Scent3, and so on till you got to either the six or twelve choices.

The kicker is that you would need to have every scent as an option value to Scent1, Scent2, Scent3...... Plus, of course, the Please Pick a Scent. Also, the devs are still working on keeping stock of the quantities on hand of attributes. You would have no way of knowing what scents were sold without manually tracking them.

I'd go with sets of six based on a theme. "Fall Kitchen" "Summer Garden" and other complimentary scents in a pre-set package. Until the attribute tracking gets here. Mention of call or email for special orders will allow those who want to to customize.

On another note, check into the size of your images. Your home page is right at 1 meg!:shocking: Took 7 seconds to load on my 5mb pipe. PNG and BMP are not really the best choice for this situation. The graphics look great but will cause many folks to think the site is dead.

Re: category min qty/mix match

Thank you for your seriously indepth thoughts! I may try and work it another way and am going to to search for the appropriate category to post in. I was a bit paniced last night and posted same question like buckshot anywhere I could lol...I think I need to go to the attributes section...
