Product type - Free Shipping helpfull??

Im having the same issue as alot of others with the ALWAYS FREE SHIPPING for international customers.

Iv been looking for a way to fix this. and today i noticed that there is a product type called Product-FreeShipping.

what exactly does this do, and would it be usefull for setting products for free shipping with US addresses only?

my problem lies in the checkout process, if i have my freeshipper modual set to us addresses zone only. then customers with international addresses outside the US are presented with no options at all, making it impossable for them to checkout.

so for a temp fix, i have opend the freeshipper to all zones, and changed the define to inform them that its only avalible for US address only.. please contact for quote.

anyways, im just wondering if this product type could be setup for free shipping and then limted to only those inside the US. otherwise show the rates for UPS and/or USPS or does it not work like that? i only have about 40 products which are free shippers, so moving them to a new product type woulnt be hard if infact it would work for me.

I have read some of the other fixes that are posted, but i cant make hine-nor-hair of them.

any advice on this one would be great.

The only option you have, if you are not willing to ship free abroad, is to set a flag to the products you want to ship for free.
This means, that you need to make some changes in order to have a "cloned" freeshipper which will showup to domestic customers only! Also, the "free shipping" icon could be displayed to those customers only.
A new "products" database field will be required to handle the "domestic free shipping" products.
And of course, changes to some core files to handle shipping functions & product inserts (like update_product.php & collect_info.php)
