How can I remove the demo

Hi,

(I did search for this, but found no answer.)

I installed 1.3.6 a few days ago and installed the demo store with it. Now I want to remove it cleanly without doing a re-install -- because I've made a fair number of changes I'd like to keep. So is there a clean way to simply remove all the products/categories/etc. that were put in with the demo?

Yes, open your Admin and delete all of the categories.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: How can I remove the demo

Thanks. I've done that. I just wasn't convinced that I was cleaning everything up. Do the products disappear from the database when I delete the categories they're in?

There still seems to be a lot of stuff around from the demo. Sample customers, sample emails, etc. But maybe I can learn from them as I find them and delete them.

Re: How can I remove the demo

Deleting Categories deletes Products ... which clean out attribute tables, specials, featured, etc.

Deleting Orders ... cleans the orders_blah tables ...

Deleting Customers ... cleans the customers_blah and address_blah tables ...

Usually the Option Names and Option Values are handy to keep as they are all configured for you ... or you can start from square one ...

If you know you just want to begin complete over from the get go ... a clean install works, then you can load your custom template ...

Be aware: doing a new install will delete all Configuration, Layout Boxes, Shipping, Payment and Order Total settings on the modules ... plus any add-ons you may have ...

Be sure to backup both database and site ...

I prefer the delete what I see I do not want rather than scrap it ... unless I am really familar with what I am deleting and why from the database ...

Thanks for the tips Linda. Sounds like sage advice. Or maybe margoram.

Re: How can I remove the demo

There are also many sample images in your image folders that will take up webspace.

My best advice is to re-install the software (delete databases and backup any files you've changed first) and don't check the box to load the demo.
