Will Zen Cart let me do this?

First of all a big hello to all you zenners out there. This is my first posting ever so I apologise if I unintentionally break any forum rules.

I have a problem that I just can't seem to sort out. I want to set my site up which will (hopefully) sell bespoke teddy bears. The customer will be able to choose whatever colour, size, shape, features etc... that they want in order to create their own unique teddy. The possibilites are endless. On top of that I'd also like to provide a sequence of steps in which they should start ordering. eg. Step 1 would be to choose colour, step 2 for size, Step 3 for selecting head, step 4 for selecting body, step 5 .... and so on until they've completed the teddy they like and then to proceed to checkout. I've seen a site which has this step-by-step process http://www.selffit.co.uk/Public/KitchenUnits.aspx - it's not quite teddies but its got the sales concept that I'm after!!!!!

Can I, if at all, do this with Zen Cart? I hope someone can help me as I'm desperate for a solution.

Re: Will Zen Cart let me do this?

Here's an example of a Zen Cart product with several different kinds of attributes available for selection prior to finally adding the specified product to the shopping cart.
http://www.zen-cart.net/demo/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22&products_id=34

In this example, all dependencies are visible on-screen.
Unlike the example you mentioned, this does not guide you through choosing several products; instead, it allows you to specifically configure the individual product before adding it to the cart.

The example you mentioned basically just provides an interface to add many different items to the cart, from varying categories. Zen Cart can do similarly in various ways. The product-listing page by default allows entering a quantity for a certain item (or several items), and then adding those to your cart.
http://www.zen-cart.net/demo/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3_10
It can be configured to have individual buttons beside each product, rather than buttons at top/bottom of the list.

Adding items to the cart can either leave you on the page on which you clicked Add-To-Cart, or it can take you directly "to" the shopping-cart page to see what's in there.

Either way, once the items are added to the cart, checkout can proceed similarly.

Re: Will Zen Cart let me do this?

I've had a look at the links that DrByte suggested as they do what I want. I've got 4 questions:

  1. After "experimenting" with the Attributes controller, I finally managed to get the products to display with radio buttons. However, I'm not getting the images I want to display with them. I've entered the path in the Attributes Image Swatch field and uploaded them but I can't see them!! What am I doing wrong?
  2. How do I display more than 1 product on the page? I've looked everywhere on admin but can't seem to find the attribute to set.
  3. How can I get this look - http://www.zen-cart.net/demo/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1 where the subcategories are displayed with the images going horizontally across the page? Thanks in advance
