help with top logo image placement

I've been searching through the endless forums for hours and nothing I read has helped yet. I need help centering my top logo.gif image and making it fill the entire area width-wise.

It's measurement are 700px X 96px. I made it in Photoshop, saved it as logo.gif and uploaded it etc.. It shows up but not centered and it's left aligned no matter how much tweakinh I do in css files etc..

I think I am missing something here. I've been at it literally all day and it's almost 1am now. This is so ridiculous. I just want to sell a few items without using ebay.

I am not new to HTML or CSS. When I change my float to right etc, I get no result. This is so weird and frustrating.

Also as soon as I changed the logo.gif it also messed up some of the filler text below so that now the links are obscured.

Someone please put me out of my misery.

Well after more expiramenting I finally got some results but now I'm more confused than ever. It seems that some of the files I needed to manipulate rested in the "classic" folder and not in the "template_default" folder as I originally thought.

I think I still missed something because I don't have a folder called "custom".

Custom is a folder that you create/make and can be named "mine" or just about any name you might want.

By default most installs are 750px wide and your image you stated is 700px wide...might go back and make another or depending on what it is make a tile that you can repeat across the head area.

The top of my site has a header background image with an animated logo on the left. What's my problem?
