Removing a customer's email from ALL CUSTOMERS

I sent an email to ALL CUSTOMERS (via Tools -> Email) and got some responses back that they do not want to receive email from my store. Now I want to mark their email in some way (without deleting the customer record) so that it is not included in the ALL CUSTOMERS list.

Now, I am aware of the Newsletter option, which will only send email to members opting to get my newsletter but many have not chosen this option and I must still correspond with them on major store issues, but I do not want to inconvenience those who don't want email.

Any ideas on how I could make sure customer's who don't want email don't get added to the ALL CUSTOMERS list of email addresses?

Thank you.

Re: Removing a customer's email from ALL CUSTOMERS

Don't use it.

Seriously... use the newsletter function instead. Assume customers that don't sign up to the newsletter don't want to be emailed by you. Ignoring that request is.. frankly... spam.

If what you sent out was truely important to your customers, then I can't imagine any of them requesting you not contact them. So probably, what you sent out is still considered "marketing"... and sending marketing to "all customers" including those that have chosen to opt-out, is ethically suspect, and (in some areas at least) possibly illegal.

If your message globally affects all your current customers (address change, for example) then why would they bother asking you not to email them? If they REALLY don't ever want to hear from you, then perhaps they aren't really customers anymore?

But then again... I hate it when people tell me how to run my business rather than just answering the **#@)($ question! :)

So your answer: You can't. Not within the built-in features of ZC or any contrib that I know about. What you are looking for is another level. You want "All Customers", "Newsletter", and "All customers including those that didn't sign up for my newsletter but haven't specifically told me to get lost".

You're going to have to add that third option (preferably with a shorter name) yourself.

Sounds like the criteria for a new feature.

Perhaps this could be considered for a future release?

Sure, they can call it "Spam Assistance Module".
