Converting existing cart to Zen plus a few other queries

I hope this is the right place

First off a bit of waffle
I have written my own cms/shoopping site thing but I just can't keep maintaining it and adding the requested features cost effectively

I looked at moving to OSCommerce and even wrote a script to transfer my products database to OSC, and it did work fine - but then i began to have problems with contributions clashing etc,
So here i am at Zencart, it has 90% of what i want preinstalled

Question 1)
Being that Zencart is based off OSCommerce the databases should be fairly similar so my transfer script should work (with a few minor tweaks)

Question 2) Stock in my store had a stock status field which was used to indicate -(coming soon, instock, out of stock and clearance) is there this ability in zencart?, ok badly phrased ummm will I be able to match this to some zencart field or will i need to edit each product once it has been added to reflect it's status

Question 3) can you display stock that is not currently in stock

Ok now the non changeover questions

These are the three contributions that i want to add to my cart
Image Handler
Wishlist (is there one?)
Seach engine friendly URLs, (is there one that works ok with shared SSL) - actually reading a post further down the page the SSl stuff is stuff i probably don't want indexed anyway

Cheers

It might help if you had a flick through the forums, the contribution area is a good start, then you can see whats available.

Everything you have mentioned is possible, Im not 100% about the stock thing working the way you want but there are stock levels included in the base zen code.

Why not install a version on your own computer it only takes 2 minutes then you will be able to see exactly what zen can do for you.

Re: Converting existing cart to Zen plus a few other queries

Hi

I have done all the above, should have explained a bit more clearly

ZenCart has a lot more database tables than OSCommerce and i wasn't sure if any of these Extra would need to be added to when I added my stock, (from my testing they don't seem to but I just want to be sure)

As for the contributions The major problem I had with OSCommerce was clashes between them, is there a list somewhere of what contributions may clash with each other

as for the wishlist, I had looked for it but there seemed to be only a version that was for an old version of Zen, but further searching today did find a new version (not sure how I missed it)

Cheers

Re: Converting existing cart to Zen plus a few other queries

Nigel, I just finished the conversion of my site from OSCommerce to Zencart. I found this post which has a script that worked like a charm to convert my OSC db to Zencart:

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20788

I can tell you that one of the big reasons for my conversion after running OSCommerce for about two years was the contributions and just how much of a pain they are to install. I wish I could reclaim the countless hours of editing php files removing a section here, adding a line there.

The folks here have really got a great product and it is extremely easy to configure, add contributions and upgrade. I converted my 1.3.5 site to 1.3.6 today in about 20 minutes. This includes the time it took me to 'fix' a few issues I had that were my fault (take advantage of the override features and don't edit the default files! hahaha).

Best of luck!
