Can't get past Paypal security check with credit card

Dear Zencart team,

I have spent almost a month trying to fix this problem on my own but I give up. I have gone through all the threads I could find but can not find my answer.

I am using the Paypal module and my customers have no problem filling their cart, checking out and paying by transfering funds from their Paypal account to my 'Varified Business Account' at account https://www.crackedkettle.com. However, if they try to use a credit card, they are able to enter their information but when they enter the security numbers/letters and hit continue, the following error occurs at the top of the screen.

"Some required information is missing or incomplete. Please correct your entries and try again.
Security Measure: Please type the characters you see into the field."

It keeps doing this over and over again. I have checked all of my Paypal settings (IPN address etc) and all seems to be OK, my settings seem fine in zencart as well.

All of a sudden I have a LOT of people that want to pay using credit card (which should be a great thing) so I hope there is someone out there that can steer me in the right direction.

We have been experiencing a similar problem. Our customers had no trouble paying by credit card in the past, but now when they try to pay by credit cards, they are only given the option of paying by paypal, and most don't want to set up a paypal account. We have lost about a £1000 of business this week over this.

I called paypal UK they asked me to give a selection of e-mail address of the customers who had complained - each of them had a paypal account and didn't realise it. If they have a paypal account it is detected either by their e-mail adddress or credit card details. The explanation given to me was that they either set up an account in the past and have forgotten, a partner has set one up or (most likely) they have shopped on the internet and have set up a paypal account without their knowledge. I am wondering whether a store using paypal pro and not announcing that paypal was their processor sets up or partially sets up a paypal account to use in future for an express checkout and the customer doesn't read the small print or it isn't obvious to the customer.

If Zen coulde integrate with Paypal Pro, the problem wouldn't exist.

Sorry folks but the problem you are having is with PayPal and not Zen Cart, you need to talk to them.

Yes, I agree its a paypal problem but in the UK it is a new problem, as paypal pro has just launched in the UK, so this problem has surfaced (presumably so we all subscribe to it to overcome this problem!)

I've got only two options, change my cart to one that can intergrate with the UK version of payment pro, or change my payment processor.

Can't afford to keep losing business and getting e-mails from customers who don't want to "do battle with paypal every time I want to buy something"

I believe that the problem is with PayPal too. I called them and talked to a guy that then talked to someone in technical support. He came back to me and said 'technical support says you need to reinstall the entire button". I aksed him what he meant and he said, "everything after e-shop on your site". I asked to talk to customer support but he wouldn't put me through. Do you think I have to reinstall everything again? I though that was a profoundly stupid answer and I am not too happy with Paypal at the moment.

So, can you please suggest anything? There must be someone out there who uses the Paypay module and has it working for credit cards properly.

Apparently since 09/28/06 to 10/08/06 Paypal changed something in their system and this is where all these paypal problems are coming from. If I can not resolve this for my clients I will have to go back to generating paypal buttons because the cart doesn't record what they order BEFORE going to PP. It looks real stupid to ask my clients to email their buyers to ASK THEM what they purchased...

I contacted Paypal directly and they have not responded. (must be 9-5 Mon-Fri there or something)..

I really need a solution and honestly unless PP becomes less of a pain I don't see it happening...

Can you ZenGods work on having this order record prior to leaving the cart to pp for the next edition??

Then all would be ok for me, my clients and PP can go jump in the creek....

I would look more into the wiki and work on the things there that are outlined,

just about every issue with paypal has been fixed and the entire list of things to check is there

What is weird about the entire thing is I have a client with zen whose cart has functioned correctly through 09/28/06 then on 10/09/06, her next order, this incorrect return started happening. She is on my OWN server. I have changed nothing. So why would it break on it's own???

That is the whole thing- The code doesn't break on its own- There are only 2 choices- Something on the server changed or PayPal changed something on that end.

It is on and the return is set correctly, now you see what I mean!

THe only differnece is someone ordered something. Nothing else.

I have just been struggling with this too but now think I understand what has happened and somewhere in here might be some clues about the problems in this thread.

In November 2006 PayPal introduced a new account in the UK: Website Payments Pro. There is a £20 per month charge for this account as well as the per transaction charge. It allows you to take payments over the telephone (virtual terminal), accept credit card payments and take payments through PayPal.

With a "normal" PayPal account (no monthly charge), PayPal tell me that I can still accept credit card payments but they are processed through PayPal. A temporary PayPal account is set up for the customer. If they tick the "save my details option", I guess (not sure on this) that they are encouraged to set up a PayPal account as it is more secure (they don't have to enter their credit card details). If they chose to pay with a credit card and the email address entered matches one on a PayPal account, then the customer is made to use the PayPal account and cannot chose to use a credit card - I think that there is actually a check on the card number too. PayPal say that they are offering the customer a more secure process as they don't have to enter their credit card details. With my customer hat on, I feel that they have taken away my choice to process the payment through my credit card and not through PayPal and by the time they are telling me this I've already entered my card details.

With the shiny new Website Payments Pro account, it "looks as if YOU (the merchant) are processing the credit card payments". No comments about security from them here!

From a small business point of view, I feel that what I signed up for has now been changed - but maybe I just wasn't smart enough to read the small print.

I had that exact problem a week ago. It's not paypal or zencart. It's the customers browser.

They need to update their java and clear their cookies, it normally works then. Oh and it doesn't seem to be a problem with Firefox, only I.E. They also need to make sure their browser is set to accept paypal cookies.

Do yourselves a favor and let us develope a relationship with StormPay so they will develope a Plugin for ZenCart....

Paypal is becoming too much of a problem and too big for their britches.
