I now have too big a mysql file :(

I just made a backup of mysql.
It's with a size of 145Mb.

PHPmyadmin won't allow so big a file to be imported into it.

I have no idea what I can do when it's growing larger and larger.

If my hosting get crashed, or I happen to need to move to an new hosting.

It would be a big problem to me.

I have no experience dealing with it.

What can I do?
Anyway to delete some data? or how to deal with such a big DB?

Thanks,

Re: I now have too big a mysql file :(

When you have a file that large, you need to find "what" is causing the size ...

This could be tables that could technically be "emptied" or removed ...

phpMyAdmin is limited by size and time ...

That is a monster so you are "stuck" ...

But! There are work arounds ...

Do you have telnet access to your site?

If unsure, ask your hosting site ... if you do not, ask can you have it?

If you cannot get telenet access ... you do have FTP access ...

If you were to upload the file to a directory on your site, yes it might take a bit, but it will upload via telnet ... you can then have your tech support load it into your database ...

NOTE: if your tech support will not do this for you or do not know how ... you need a new hosting site ...

NOTE: if you are stuck with a moron for a hosting site ... PM me ...

Re: I now have too big a mysql file :(

NOTE: if you are just testing and can see the database in phpMyAdmin with this currently huge size, look at the display and see which tables are such monsters and let's see about cleaning things up a bit ...

Re: I now have too big a mysql file :(

thanks for your quick response.

I have 9000 order records.

each order has a paypal IPN record and comment history in text.

I happened to deleted all the comment history from the database through phpmyadmin. Then I found that I had made a big mistake. lol

I am just wondering if there can be a function at admin part of zen-cart for you to clean part of old data.

For example, I don't need to paypal IPN record of those orders one year ago.
Neither do i need that old comment history. heh

Just like the function for you to clean admin log records.

Besides, I am not skilled on this, maybe there is other methods that you can achieve it. But sorry, I don't know.:P
