Product sort order in "All Products..." page by model

Hi, I would like to sort the "All Products" page by model instead of by name. The inline help on the display product listing default sort order, in admin > Product listing says:

Product Listing Default sort order?
NOTE: Leave Blank for Product Sort Order. Sort the Product Listing in the order you wish for the default display to start in to get the sort order setting. Example: 2a

It makes practically no sense to me. I tried every number combo I could think of and it had absolutely no impact on the sort order of the products in the page.

How do I display the products by model?

Default= 1 for Product Name

1= Products Name
2= Products Name Desc
3= Price low to high, Products Name
4= Price high to low, Products Name
5= Model
6= Date Added desc
7= Date Added
8= Product Sort Order

I have the same question that nearly got an answer! How do I arrange Product listing articles by default to be listed by model rather than by name. I also did not understand the weird phrase quoted in post1 of this thread.

The Product Listing settings are in the Configuration ... Product Listing ...

Turn on Model ...

List a Category of Products and click on the title Model until it is sorted correctly ...

Look in the URL for the sort=XXx

That is the Sort Order to set for:

Display Product Listing Default Sort Order
Product Listing Default sort order?

Is it possible to remove some of the items from the sort box (I.E. I only want Product Name, Price -low to high and Price - high to low to show up)?

This is managed in the file:
/includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_modules_listing_display_order.php

Copy that file to your templates and overrides directory:
/includes/templates/your_template_dir/templates/tpl_modules_listing_display_order.php

And you can comment out the ones you do not want displayed ...

NOTE: this will affect ALL of the listings that call this dropdown ...

I have an issue which I think falls under this thread...

On the heading table for a category listing, I click on the title (Item Name, Price, etc.) it's suppose to sort by that respective field, high to low or low to high, right? With mine, it is not. Well, it DOES for Item Name, but not for Price. The title changes when you click on it (Price+ or Price-), but the sort is definitely not accurate.

Is there a place to adjust this in configuration??

Do you import products?

If so, you may need to run the Update Master Categories ID and Update Products Price Sorter ...

NOTE: If using Linked Products the Master Categories ID will be set to the first categories_id located in the products_to_categories table

NOTE: you must have master_categories_id set on all products before running the Update Products Price Sorter ...

NOTE: Backup your database before running any of these

Both are located in the Tools ... Store Manager ...

I am sorry to be thick on this BUT I can't follow this product default solution and have tried this for more hours than I can admit.

I want prods sorted by model number. I set this in the Products page of the category... and in All Listings in Config... and if someone had the time I'd sure appreciate knowing why my items are still coming up in alpha order by item name...

I have problem in my product listing page. If I have some products more than 10 there are numbers -4 -3 -2 -1 0 ... >> in the first page above product list. How can I make it so that it shows only page numbers (for example << 1 2 3 >> )?

Is there a way to let clients sort their searches somehow? I know this is kinda OT but I figured it is related enough to be useful here. Am I being thick or is this possible?

The All Products has a Dropdown for sorting the listing ... you can set the default in the Configuration ... All Listing ...

Display Product Display - Default Sort Order
What Sort Order Default should be used for All Products Display?

Thanks, if you are replying to me. The setting in 'all listings' sets the default, but how can a client who has searched or navigated - to a list of products - then change the sort order to - for example - low to high price?

I am talking about the list of products a website visitor sees when they search for a type of item. I couldn't find a configuration option called 'all products' so my description was based around this... Sorry about the misunderstanding :) Very glad to have reached the desired result... I just have to make it obvious to visitors they CAN sort the results now!!!

I'm only a newbie here. After spending several hours attempting to show products in sort order according to the model number, eventually I realised it will ONLY WORK if you set the model number to display on the listing page. I didn't see that documented anywhere. You do it as follows:

Go to Configuration > Product Listing > Display Product Model
and set the number indicating in which column you want the model number to be displayed. eg 1 will display the model no. in the first column.
Then on the same page, set "Display Product Listing Default Sort Order" to this number.

Hope this is of assistance to somebody, and saves them hours of frustration. By the way, if anyone knows of an easy way to do the sort order by model number without it having to show on the page, please share how it's done.
