Shipping Multiple Items

The Per Unit perweightunit is based on:

(products_weight * unit price * quantity) + handling ...

Are you able to set a handling fee to manage the smallest you will ship for, to account for the little bitty things ... and then use the products_weight as if this were the shipping charge based on the above formula?

More or less if it comes down to the cheapest you ship is $1.75 are the orders going to really be a problem on shipping if handling is 1.75 and unit charge is 1 so that 10 postcards set to products_weight 0.1 would be:

(0.1 * 1 * 10) + 1.75

And a product with a products_weight of 1.25 would be:

(1.25 * 1 * 10) + 1.75

Or, can you just alter or customize the Per Unit perweightunit that when the total weight of the order <=XX.XX you charge YY.YY otherwise do the normal calculation?

Re: Shipping Multiple Items

I'm sorry Linda. I just don't get what you are saying. I might have a large item that will ship for 7.95 then they add a small piece of jewelry that I've set to ship for 5.95 but since I can add the jewelry to the first order I can ship both for 7.95 since it does not add weight. But if they ordered another large item I would need to charge a little extra.

Re: Shipping Multiple Items

You complicate the Shipping too much ...

Unless you really want to get into a custom Shipping Module that would involve several specific types of calculations for your Products you will have a hard time setting something up to manage everything under every circumstance ...

You could use a Handling charge on this to offset when the jewlery is purchased alone for the minimum charge ... but that adds it to the big product purchase too ...

Now if you offset the shipping charges with the handling it might help balance out the shipping charges for all of the orders ...

Or, you could customize the module to only charge the handling fee when the weight is <= XX and not charge it on the heavier orders ... under the assumption that the products_weight has the correct charge in there ...

Re: Shipping Multiple Items

I just don't seem to be able to set these shipping rates, there are too many combinations for me to get it right. Any help would be much appreciated.

The shipping rates I need can be seen here:

http://www.reggaevendor.co.uk/shippingrates.htm

I need to set shipping by category, amount of products (but price is different per category) and zones (UK, Europe, Rest of World)

I'm well & truly confused and have tried several different ways to set this up but no joy!

Pleeeeeaase help :lookaroun

Re: Shipping Multiple Items

Hi Linda,

With all of these shipping questions being raised (there's enough in the forums!) I thought you might need a coffee (or beer!) break so I just donated one by paypal for you.

Keep up the great work, Zen is THE BEST!

Re: Shipping Multiple Items

Hi,

Ok, I have been busy with this again. I have calculated zones & rates and set them up in the Zone Rates shipping module.

The problem I have now is that upon checkout the product weight is shown as being in lbs and the shipping is calculated incorrectly.

I guess what I need to figure out is how to stop the weight being literally weight (lbs) and just to be numbers and to add them together.

Example with Uk shipping zone:

To ship 1 cd (weight 1.33) costs £1.00, 2 cd's (total weight now 2.66) costs £1.50 and 3 cd's (total weight now 3.99) costs £2.00 to ship.

Upon checkout the weight is calculated correctly ie, 1.33, 2.66 or 3.99 but in lbs and the total amount for shipping is calculated at 1 cd £3.50 (!), 2 cd's £2.00, 3 cd's £2.20.

Not really close to what I have set up. Aaaaarggghhh! Boo Hoo!

I have uploaded a page showing the steps I took to set the Zone Rates up, could someone tell me where I went wrong please?

http://www.reggaevendor.co.uk/shippingrates.htm

Normally I am able to work zen out but not this time and I really need some help please.

Many thanks

Re: Shipping Multiple Items

I have just noticed that the shipping estimator calculates the weight at 4.33lbs instead of 1.33 for 1 cd and calculates the shipping at £3.50 which is correct for my zone rate if the weight was 4.33 but it's not it's 1.33 (!?).

Just the same as 2 cd's shows in the shipping estimator as weight 5.66 instead of 2.66 and calculates the rate for an order with the weight 5.66 correctly.

Although the correct weight is shown on the shopping cart page, the shipping calculator is doing it's own thing and making a mess of my shipping rates!

Hmmmmmm. Why oh why?

I'm stumped

Cheers
Claire

Re: Shipping Multiple Items

So it would seem that I set up the Zone rates correctly (yippee) but the shipping estimator is adding a weight of 3 to the total of the products shipping weights.

Any idea where I might find and remove this offending 3?

Sorry for all the posts, but hopefully my step by step calculations will help others stuck with similar shipping problems.

Just gotta find that darned 3 now!

Cheers

Re: Shipping Multiple Items

Found the offending 3! Admin - Configuration - Shipping/Packaging - Package Tare weight. Changed it to 0! So simple really!

My complicated shipping rates now work (to an extent anyway - only problem I can forsee is if someone orders 1 cd + 1 book, or in general products from different categories).

Still the best shopping cart around!

Cheers

:D

I hope this helps others with complicated shipping rates.

Re: Shipping Multiple Items

Thanks for the update! And glad you located the Tare weight which was adding on to your Product weight in the order ...
