hideCategories

Danielle:

I've installed the latest version of this mod (2.1) and it looks like it includes the changes below. However, when I search, I get no results, even for categories that are not hidden. If I put back the original advanced_search_result/header_php.php file, the products all show up, but it includes the products from the hidden categories. I have checked and rechecked all the files and I just don't know what is causing this problem.

Try the file header_php.php file attached see if that works for you. This is unedited without any other mods installed. I take no credit or responsibility, backup your original first.

Simply upload it to includes/modules/pages/advanced_search_result/header_php.php it is for 1.5.1 version

Re: hideCategories

Thank you, but that didn't work either. It does cause the hidden categories to be excluded from the search results, but all other products are excluded as well.

I am looking it now. I tried it on a test site and works without issues. But I am thinking maybe it has to do with your tpl_categories.php but could be wrong without knowing all you have installed. Are you testing this on alive or test site? With or without other modules.

Out of curiosity did you try to install this using a fresh install? Without seeing a particular error there is no way for me or anyone else try to resolve your problem! Do you have an error log with details that can show the possible reason it is failing?

Examples: http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?311-warning-an-error-occurred-please-refresh-the-page-and-try-again and http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?84613-Debug-Error-Logging-Utility-for-PHP-and-Zen-Cart

I have tried the other header_php.php mentioned above but it did nothing....FYI, it's MORE helpful for the community if you post details about the issues you are having and the link to your site.. Saying "It's not working" or "I am having the same problem" without any details doesn't give folks much to go on.. Don't make folks guess what the issue is.. That said since this is hideCategories, unless there is some glaring error message we are going to see, it would help if you gave us details on what it is that is the issue with this add-on. If there is a category that should be hidden that is not, we have no way of knowing this unless you provide details of what it is we are going to see and what it is you think we should see..

Re: hideCategories

Hey DivaVocals did you ever get that 1.5 update?

DivaVocals:

I've been working on a Zen Cart v1.5 version of it (I have a client who needs this mod so I spent some time on it..). I haven't released it yet, and when I do I'll update this thread and probably start a new support thread for it altogether.. I'm on vacation, and when I get home I'll put a copy of it (sans an updated readme) on my site if you want it..

Yeah.. see what had happened was..

Sorry.. Like RMA, I updated this for my client and moved on to the next project..:laugh: Let me post my v1.5 ready updated fileset here (like I did for RMA..)

Actually let me bundle it and post it in what will be the NEW hideCategories support thread.. This one is a bit long in the tooth, and I think the original author would like to be rid of this mod anyway (which I can help with by creating a new support thread..)

Excellent Thanks so much

The readme has not been fully updated yet -- specifically the "Optional Install Files" section which had been replaced with a custom product type.. (will do that on Friday) but the add-on will work.. In place of the "Optional Install Files" hideCategories now includes files and a supporting SQL files for adding it's own "hidden" product type. This "hidden" product type is a clone of the general product type with the navigation buttons removed to prevent folks from paging through products in the hidden category.. I even include the scripts you need to run to convert existing product in the hidden category to use the new "hidden" product type..

The issue is that I cannot upload the files.. so I'll have to come back at this on Friday when I can properly submit this to the Plugins section..

If you've been waiting for this, you could have used it long ago with Zen Cart v1.5.x if you had made use of Winmerge..

Honestly converting this didn't really require a lot of "coding".. It is really a matter of comparing the current fileset with their default Zen Cart counterparts and merging in any changes made to those files.. Many didn't change at all between 1.3.9 and 1.5.1.. Most of the "work" done in the upcoming version is in the files to support a "hidden" product type.. That took a fair bit of trial and error to get everything nailed down.. There is an FAQ that I used as a starting point, but there were many more little changes needed that the FAQ didn't cover that I had to run down to get it to work correctly..

Re: hideCategories

Just wanted to let folks know.. again.. I will be creating a NEW hideCategories support thread when I submit the new version, and asking the admins to close this one.. This support thread is a bit long in the tooth, all of the "fixes" over the years to make this add-on fully support hiding categories in all of the default Zen Cart files have been implemented.. and as i said previously, the original author has made it clear that he no longer supports this mod and would like to be rid of this mod anyway (which I can help out with by creating a new support thread..)

Stay tuned..

This is where I would have been completely lost.

Why?? the custom product type code isn't anything YOU would have NEEDED to do to use this add-on.. it's a NEW FEATURE I am adding to replace the Optional Modifications section of the current available version.. The OPTIONAL modifications are not required to use this add-on and the current instructions are still valid.. I am replacing it because I realized that instead of using an existing default Zen Cart product type for hidden products that hidden products shouldprobably have their own product type..

Again, if you had wanted to use this add-on there was no need to wait for someone to come along and update it. A file merging program would have had allowed you to have hideCategories converted to work with Zen Cart v1.5.1 in fairly short order

If you are installing ANY add-ons for Zen Cart a file merging program like Winmerge or Beyond Compare is a MUST HAVE tool.. TONS of Zen Cart add-ons overwrite core files and many of the SAME core files.. You CANNOT install Zen Cart add-ons without a file merging program to make sure that you properly merge all the code changes they make.. A file merging program will help you to see where these differences are an put the modifications in their correct locations..

THIS module in particular REQUIRES a file merging program to install as it modifies MANY core files that are modified by/used by other add-ons.

Re: hideCategories

I had read or I thought I had read about some issues on v1.51 not doing searches correctly. I use this for both online ordering and as an in store POS system. I have just enough knowledge to get myself into real trouble. I have been getting a second permanent test site up and running so now hopefully I can be a little less gun shy on trying to do trial and error. I have merged before several times. It's the little details that kill me when something doesn't go right as I get lost not knowing what symbols and what not actually does what. One day I'll have to take a class or something.

and this isn't an issue if you have a test/dev site setup to test any updates before applying the changes to your live store..

Re: hideCategories

I have my test site up now. I merged these files together. I just have one issue. The site is http://onlineorder.sshorepizza.com across the top of the page is a navigation bar. It has all the categories listed there. I like having it there but I'm sure I can turn it off just haven't found where. Ideally though I'd like to modify the file that makes this category listing. I think it is found at onlineorder/includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_modules_categories_tabs.php I'm not positive. I was going to try and merge that with the sidebox template but can't figure out what I would put where. Can you give me any help with this? Other than this one issue it seems to be working. I can't search for the items and can't see them in the category sidebox.

Thank you
