Free UPS Ground Across Board

Hi there...I've found a few threads on how to...or not to...offer free UPS Ground shipping on orders based on coupons or weight or dollar amount. Is there an easy way to offer free UPS Ground across the board?

meaning...I don't care how much the person orders, how much it weighs, or anything else. If they choose Ground, they don't get charged anything.

Can this be done? If so, how? Thanks!

Re: Free UPS Ground Across Board

In the ups.php shipping module file, around line 173, you see this:```
if ($type=='STD') {
if ($std_rcd) continue;
else $std_rcd = true;
}
if (!in_array($type, $allowed_methods)) continue;

Add the following on a new line below it:```
        if ($type=='GND') $cost = 0;

Re: Free UPS Ground Across Board

Very cool. Thanks! For the record, I also figured out another work-around. We want to offer free ground shipping just for the holidays. And we kind of want to promote it. So here's what I did:

  • I installed the Flat Rate shipping module
  • then I turned off the "ground" option in the UPS module
  • then I had to go in and edit how the Flat Rate text appeared on the template page. Did this through includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/flat.php

And that did everything we needed it to do..

Thanks!

Thanks for posting your solution ... very handy the way these modules can be altered to "appear" to be most anything you want them to be ... :smile:

Re: Free UPS Ground Across Board

I am looking for a simular fix but i would like to allow all the ups shipping choices, not charge for them and hide the $0.00 cost all together. Can this be done? Our customers want to be able to choose type of shipping but they understand that shipping cost will be applied at time of shipping and they are also aware that they will be recieving a bill in the mail that will show the cost of shipping.

Thanks,

Slabadoo

DrByte and or anyone else that may have this answer, I am looking to apply what DrByte reomended above to the FedEX Modules.

DrByte's suggestion worked great in the UPS Mods. Perhaps someone can help me accomplish the same in the FedEx Mods which is forcing the FedEX shipping cost to say $0.00
Thanks,

Re: Free UPS Ground Across Board

Fed Ex issues aren't part of this particular discussion thread.

Nevertheless, if you are wanting to ship Free for FedEx regardless of service type, why are you even using the FedEx module? Just set up the "flat" shipping module, and set price to 0. Then change the description to "Fed Ex" instead.

Re: Free UPS Ground Across Board

DrByte, I understand > Fed Ex issues aren't part of this particular discussion thread but the answer to the ups.php mod was found here and it is in the shipping portion of the forum.

I am aware that I can use the flat.php but I needed to provide all the shipping features that Fed Ex has to offer. Just the fix for ups.php I would like to know how to show $0.00 by adjusting the code. I have already been down the flat.php road and although it works for most cases, this particular situation would be easier doneif I could just show $0.00 for the Fed Ex mod. If I was to go about it with flat.php I would want it to have multiple radion buttons inside of one form. It got to hairy so I am now just trying to get a $0.00 value then hide it with css. Shipping is alculated at a later time, when the product actually leaves the warehouse so this is why the price has to be $0.00

Hope I don't sound snappy ,:smile:
Thanks,

Slabadoo
