Cancel Gift Certificate Order

Hi,

We had a customer purchase a gift certificate and have not received payment. We have cancelled the order but the certificate still shows in the gift que. How can we delete it safely out of the que?

If we release it will it recognize that the order has been cancelled?

Don't release it that puts the GVs in the customer's account ... :eek:

Gift Certificates were not meant to be deleted as they are cash ...

At this time, there is not a simple method to manage the GVs for deletions because of this ...

You will need to manual edit the database to remove that GV ...

In phpMyAdmin, you can browse the coupon_gv_queue table and find the GV for that order ...

Carefully delete just that 1 record ...

NOTE: Backups are always a nice thing before doing something beyond the norm ...

However, a common scenerio that leaves a gift cert in the queue that needs to be removed, would be where a person says they will pay for the certificate by sending in a check (which bounces or never arrives).

In that scenerio, I would cancel the original order, and the cert would still be in the queue.

That is why we are looking into expanding this code, but we do need to be careful as we are saying to delete cash ... :lamo:

Perhaps the cert could be redirected to the Admin's email. Anyway, just a thought.

Do any one know how to get rid of the coupon and gift certificate page?

Has this ever been changed?
I set up a gift certificate and manually emailed it to myself to see how it worked.
I used the redemtion link that comes in the email and it put the money into my account. Saying I have a 25$ gift certificate balance...

Is there a way I can set that balance back to zero that I know it worked?

Go to phpMyAdmin ...

Find the table:
coupon_gv_customer

Find the correct customers_id ...

Change the amount ...

All done ...

NOTE: This is a bad way to manage this data as you are dealing in CASH and there are NO records of where that CASH went to ...

I think the issue for canceling a GC is BEFORE it is released. Once it has been released I agree that it should be treated as cash. But before it is released, the GC has not been issued and thus should be allowed to be canceled without any consequences. Deleting AFTER it has been released is definitely a cause for concern as Ajeh states.

We will be addressing these issues in a future release ...

NOTE: If I buy a Gift Certificate from you, there should be some record of this if you are not releasing it or I have a receipt saying I bought this and you don't ...
