Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

Hi guys,

Any advice on this will be much appreciated.

My store only sells one item, flashing graphic equalizer t-shirts (https://www.tqualizer.biz)

Many times, customers will order 2 or 3 shirts, and by default it will charge them for shipping each item in its own box...Gets expensive and I'm sure I am losing sales over this.

Is there any way I can configure Zen-Cart to know to ship an order with 2 items in one box, or 3 items in one box, etc, etc?

I can fit two shirts in the same size box that I ship one shirt, so would love to be able to have zen-cart recognize this.

Thanks!

What do you have set in admin->configuration->shipping/packaging for:

Enter the Maximum Package Weight you will ship

Try setting that to the weight of two (or however many you want) t-shirts.

I played with that, and currently have it set to 10 pounds for overkill purposes but the quotes are coming up the same.

If someone orders 7 shirts, it puts one shirt in one box and charges them the going rate for 7 individual shipments, whereas if they were in one box the rate is much more reasonable.

What exactly is the weight you have entered for your shirts? - eg. 0.0xx

Re: Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

Just looking at that, the weight is set to .63Lbs each

Re: Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

Might seem an obvious question, but you are entering just the 0.63 and not 0.63Lbs?

Re: Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

I dropped the weight to 0.3 lbs to test, and the shipping figures did NOT change.

Could this have something to do with my Canada Post module?

Hopefully, otherwise we're running out of ideas here

Does the module communicate with Canada Post, or are there any settings in the module in admin that might be having an effect? - I've not used that module.

What happens if you turn that module off and install a different shipping module, then go through checkout with (say) 3 shirts in your cart?

Re: Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

I know it gets the quote directly from the Canada Post server, and there is also an area for boxes on the admin site for Canada Post.

I've added other boxes, and emailed them to figure out how to get it to choose a bigger box based on weight or number of items...hopefully that comes back with a positive answer.

By the sounds of it, zencart appers to be properly configured on my end.

What are the small/medium tare settings for? Does this have anything to do with the problem I'm having?

Re: Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

Yes, that could be part of it, depending on what you had that set to and how many shirts you had in the cart - the 'tare' setting adds an extra weight to the actual shipping weight to allow for the weight of packaging - try setting both those lines to '0:0'.

I couldn't see what weight the cart was calculating because you have the weight display turned off on step 1 of checkout. Maybe you could turn the weight display back on while you're testing this - it might help you see what's happening.

Nice site by the way, but you're getting some 'unencrypted page' warnings going in to/out of SSL. Try changing your background/graphic image paths to relative rather than absolute URL's.

Re: Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

Thanks for your help & advice.

If Canada Post comes back to me with a solution I will post it in case anyone has this problem in the future with multi-item orders.

I have a feeling this is going to be a simple, but easily overlooked fix...the worst kind!

Re: Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

Did anyone ever get a fix on this..I am having the same problem. My client sells coffee and she can ship 5 products in one box..the shipping charges are coming out in the hundreds of dollars. Is there anyway to just turn this off? I used to use the old Canada Post shipping module and it worked fine. I may re-install that one and remove this new one...

Anyone?

Is there a solution to this problem? I've been looking all over the place but cannot figure out how to ship all items in one package.

Can anybody let me know?

Thanks, Ox.

Re: Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

Hi!

Have you set up box sizes on the Canada Post Sell-Online site? Also, make sure that the "Item ships in its original box? (ie: no extra packaging charges) " button is not checked when entering the product.

Finally, make sure that your units of measurement are consistent throughout the site, ie. when entering dimensions and in My Store.

Hope this helps!

Re: Boxes for multi-item orders - Canada Post

thanks,

I resolved it last night. The "Item ships in its original box? (ie: no extra packaging charges) " chackbox was checked out for one of the products. Once I unchecked that, it all came up good.

Thanks again.
