Opening product file is too slow, help please

My zen cart products are mp3 files.
When I click on the product file name, for example sound.mp3, it takes a full 10 to 12 seconds until the file plays.

Is there any way to speed up the lag time between clicking the file name and the file playing?

Is it a code thing? Could a customization improve it?
Or is it not possible to somehow improve this?

How large are the mp3's that you are allowing a listen to?

you might create shorter clips of the actual file for preview listening if this is not what you are currently doing.

An alternative would be to provide in some manner a streaming feed so that the file begins to play before the full file is transfered. Beware that many hosts do not allow streaming as this can use a lot of band width.

DSL can be 768kb/s to cable at around 3mb/s and T1 at 10mb/s
That is bits per second...do the math and think about aomeone on dial-up at 56kb/s
