Re: not centered on firefox.. centered on IE

I can't keep track of all your posts....So I'll post here on one of your other problems.....The image in the footer

comment out #footer and then replace #siteinfoLegal with this and see what you get

#siteinfoLegal {
        background-image: url(../images/newfooter.jpg);
	background-repeat: no-repeat;
	background-position: center;
	color: #000000;
	font-size: .9em;
	font-weight: bold;
	}

I wanted to use firefox web developer to test this but it doesn't do relative paths to images:cry:

Re: not centered on firefox.. centered on IE

You should also be developing for a more compliant browser like firefox first and then work on the adjustments for IE. I don't want to here about "most people use IE....blah, blah, blah" Its just the way it should be done as the bug fixes for IE problems are well documented.

Re: not centered on firefox.. centered on IE

If you look at the demo that clyde setup this is how he got the bottom image and the text in it:

 #siteinfoLegal {
 padding: 100px 0 0 0;
	color: #000000;
	font-size: .9em;
	font-weight: bold;
	text-align: center;
	background: url(../images/newfooter.jpg) center no-repeat;
	height:100px
}

clyde nice work can I get you to do my mockups

Re: not centered on firefox.. centered on IE

first ff.. you guys are D BOMB!...... That is Exactly what I wanted.... i tweaked the footer so the ip shows up in it as well and I am all set.... I am learning.... like what you did with the padding....... I am taking notes and checking them twice..... if i may ask another question.... i created empty category.. the 2 sub cats on firefox are off center... and then when you click one the "filter By: is soooo far to the left also... I know firefox doesnt read the "float: center" (ie apparently does that is why it is fine on ie) that is why it is not centering.. what is the correct syntax i should use.... 8)

Re: not centered on firefox.. centered on IE

float: center is not a valid syntax in either firefox or ie. In fact, it is not a valid CSS selector; you can float either left, right or none.

To center something you should use text-align: center

the other problem is probably a width setting in the label declaration

Re: not centered on firefox.. centered on IE

Those are handled by several "form" declarations in the stylesheet.

as I said the problem I saw is probably something in a width declaration.

I'll take another look and see if I can find it.

Re: not centered on firefox.. centered on IE

Just want to make sure you understand that the fact that it is centered in IE is because the browser is doing what it thinks you want. Since firefox knows that the declaration is bad it throws it away. Remember you have people out here using firefox, opera and safari(mac) all of which are more compliant than IE. Then you have the problem of IE6 vs IE7, IE7 is more compliant than 6, so fixes made for IE6 render differently on IE7. Just check out my site to see what I mean, right below the header, looks ok in IE6 and firefox....but its doesn't in IE7. Gotta fix that one of these days..... What does all this mean to us designers......conditional stlyesheets:wacko:

Re: not centered on firefox.. centered on IE

barco.. my man.. i have been writing down everything you have said, clyde too... and for that fact kobra kurio and so on... I am actually getting the hang of it... sad this is... i still have a long way to go... looked at the form declarations to see if i could figure it out....

#logo, .centerBoxContents, .specialsListBoxContents, .centerBoxContentsAlsoPurch, .attribImg {
float: center;
}

thats the culprete... well for the drop box and filter by thing at least.. its
.centerBoxcontents
i tried text align .. no dice...

of course i am going based off of firefox and the source it generated... that was the id.... thanks again guys.. proficiency is on the way :D
