REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

I think this is the section i need to alter:

<?php if (ACCOUNT_DOB == 'true') echo ' check_input("dob", ' . ENTRY_DOB_MIN_LENGTH . ', "' . ENTRY_DATE_OF_BIRTH_ERROR . '");' . "\n"; ?>

Can someone tell me what to change to illiminate this field and from there I will know how to get rid of some others.

I found this coding in:includes/form_check.js.php

**2/ Also can anyone tell me where to get updated currancy values when default id Australia?
**
3/ And how do i change the ea to Mtrs
in my store?

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

DOB can be set to either:

1 required

2 optional

3 not asked

The Currency can be updated on the Localization ... Currency ... by having 1 of the currencies set to the default and marked as a value of 1 ...

Then hit the Update and it will connect to an exchange rate and update the other values ...

The ea is a DEFINE statement in your language files ...

Go to the Tools ... Developer's Tool Kit and do a search on:
'ea

in the Catalog using the bottom input box ...

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

Glad you asked that ... :smile:

Start with:
Configuration ... Customer Details ...

Date of Birth
Display date of birth field during account creation and with account information
NOTE: Set Minimum Value Date of Birth to blank for not required
Set Minimum Value Date of Birth > 0 to require

If not required, be sure to edit the language file to remove the * indicating that it is a required field ...

Re:Changing ea TO Mtr

According to my Developers tool Kit this is the location:

/admin/includes/languages/english/products_price_manager.php
Line #116 : define('TEXT_EACH','ea.');

I have added directly under it:
define('TEXT_METRE','Per Mtr.');

Is this right? or do I change like so:
Line #116 : define('TEXT_EACH','per mtr');

Is there any further step after that? Any other files that will read off this and so need altering?:lookaroun
How do i asign it to a catogory as there is no options in the drop down menu in Catogory>Product Price manager (only a catogory I set up for now)

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

Actually it is the other file you want to change for the Catalog:

/includes/languages/english.php

Line #110 : define('BOX_SHOPPING_CART_DIVIDER', 'ea.- ');
Copy that file to, if you have not already:
/includes/languages/your_template_dir/english.php

And then edit this define to read what you want it to display ...

Using the templates and overrides allow you to upgrade without your customizations being overwritten so that you can update the files as needed carefully ...

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

I also added this line:
define('TEXT_PRODUCTS_DISCOUNT_PRICE_METRE','Calculate Price:');

Right after:
define('TEXT_PRODUCTS_DISCOUNT_PRICE_EACH','Calculate Price:');

As I thought it may be needed?:lookaroun

I am gussing though. Never played with php before a couple weeks ago:lamo:

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

Adding your defines are fine ... but if you did not code something to use them, they are pretty meaningless ... :unsure:

The define statements are used in the code to represent text that you want displayed, but if they are not utilized anywhere in the code then they are not used ...

php is not self learning ... it only know what you tell it and what you tell it to do in the code ... :lamo:

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

I put /admin/includes/languages/english/products_price_manager.php back to it's original state and altered the:
/includes/languages/english.php

As a raw beginner I havent really gone about the overriding correctly - I have been altering the classic template, however I did keep an untouched version on my PC.
Should I rename the one on the server to my_name_template now and upload the original again?

Also from memory I have also altered a file in the templates_default folder
(to get rid of the logo)
Is this a problem in future when upgrading? Or should I just make a note of this?

Also now I have altered the ea TO Per Mtr (will this be my only option on products?)
Or should I add something somewhere else.
I am doing a craft shop and some items are sold per metre, some each and some per 10 inch block etc

i am not sure where to create these options and aplly them.

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

Upgrade + no templates and overrides = Wipe Out ... :eek:

The idea of templates and override directories is so that all of your customized language files, templates and code exist in your own, personal directories that when an upgrade is installed, they will remain untouched ...

Then, you can just compare your customized files to the new default files to see if you need to make any changes or not ...

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

So you duplicate every directory folder and file and rename the folder and sit these along side the original?

I could still do this if i renamed what is there now and uploaded the originals couldnt I?

Or have I miss understood:lookaroun

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

basically ... you just have to be careful and copy all files and directories to your own templates and overrides directories ...

You might read through the FAQs and Wiki on this ...

Re: REMOVING FORM FIELD: DOB & Currancies updated- Aust

So you start with a copy of say "classic" template and rename it mytemplate
Then any files you nedd to alter from the template_default folder you use a copy of that file and place it somewhere in your template folder?Where?

Then when you upgrade the upgrade reads of the default template? Yes/No:blink:

Is that how it works. I have read the info but dont understand the process.

Best to use the link at the top this page -- Tutorials/FAQ -- and study up on the Template overrides system. May take a bit to get your head wrapped around the concept but once you do, the rest is a breeze.

You could also search the Forum using 'overrides' to view other threads that might help.

Thanks Rob I will read through again as I really do want to do this well and properly.
It has to eventually sink in.
I have made allot of errors and waisted hours looking for things in files rather than in the zen cart admin.
After I get this site up and going I will start another and do it correctly then when I understand the process correctly I will go back and make the alterations to this one.

I am even thinking of setting up some "instructions for dummies like me" info for people in my position who start, knowing absolutely nothing.

I guess I through myself in the deep end. I really only had experience in Html and design and had never even looked at a php site before. When I did my web coarse they taught us access not mySQL and we used asp not php which was irritating because it is my understanding that the later is mostly used and more useful, not to mention handy right now.

The good news is that link is a good starting point.
The bad news is that link is a good starting point.

Unfortunately, many other aspects of creating a Custom Template are required and they are not listed on that page but spread out here 'n there. Keep digging.

Like most of us, you'll find the learning is in the doing. :lookaroun
