Can't purchase gift certificates with authorize.net

Problem: Users can't purchase only gift certificates using their credit cards (authorize.net).

They can purchase them in conjunction with another item and authorize.net.

They can purchase only gift certificates using paypal.

But if they try to purchase only gift certificates with authorize.net they get the "There has been an error processing your credit card. Please try again." error.

I have been using zencart for years and haven't had issues until yesterday, so please forgive me, my zencart senses are rusty.

The cart is an older version (we plan to upgrade next month) 1.2.2.7 :blink:
We are using the SIM version of the authorize.net module.

I've scoured through the knowledge base and the forums and I've seen mention of the problem of trying to purchase a single gift certificate but there was no real answer. And it's strange that it works with paypal and not authorize.net.

As always, any help you can give would truly be appreciated!!!

If the latter, what changes brought this about?

I donot still have a 1.2.7 install to check...maybe another does. This should be viewed by Zen Cart as any other product and I do not see an option to differentiate this from any other product in current installs of 1.3.6. So it looks as though the gateway(authorize.net) should not be capable of distinguishing this from any other purchase, but apparently there is some product difference in your install.

I use 1.2.7 with authorize.net w/o any issues. We use the AIM version, not the SIM version though. Authorize.net does not care what products are listed - they will charge people for any item sold. Perhaps in the cases were someone bought a gift cert, they had a declined card? Have you been able to test the gift cert purchase using a known good credit card?

Although the site has been up and working, we've never had someone just order gift certificates. Since nothing has changed with the files or server settings it leads me to believe this might have been a glitch all along. But I can't be positive since I know way back when we first set up the gift certs we tested it...

Authorize.net is not receiving any transmissions when we check out with only a gift certificate. But if anything else is purchased along with the gift certificate it goes through just fine.

So it seems it's something with the cart.. yes? :down:

The credit cards I've been using to test with are infact good cards, they've worked with purchasing the gift certs via paypal, and when purchasing the gift certs with another product via authorize.net. :blink:

If you switch to the AIM module instead of SIM, do things work any better ?

If you set up a test site with 1.3.6 and put your authorizenet settings in it, do these same transactions work better?
