How to turn off Free Shipping Image

Unless a Product is marked as Always Free shipping then you don't get the icon ...

Downloads are NOT marked as:
Product is Virtual
Always Free Shipping

I am not sure why you would see the Free Shipping icon at all unless you told it to mark the Product as Always Free Shipping ...

I'm baffled. That is I'm confusing myself.

I've always understood (assumed) that Always Free shipping should be set for download products. Otherwise customers would get charged shipping on the downloads.

Thus in my ZC 1.27 shop my download products have always been set as:

Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping Address
Always Free Shipping: Yes, Always Free Shipping

And that worked fine (except as I stated I had to manually comment out in the template so the Free shipping image would not display).

So to clarify, are you stating I should set my download products with:

Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

and then all will be hunky dory?

And my customers would not be charged shipping on a download item. But if a physical product was on the same order, shipping would be properly charged on the hard good item only?

Hmmm...I'm certain I previously tested out that scenario and found it did not work as desired. But maybe I missed something? Dunno.

However, in 1.37 I just discovered a new option that was not available in v.1.27:

Always Free Shipping: Special, Product/Download Combo Requires a Shipping Address

Which when enabled on a download product, the hard good is now properly charged shipping when ordered at the same time as a download. I just tested that out and it works. And then I was able to uncomment the free shipping image code in the template and all is well.

So it appears this new option which I was not even aware of completely resolves my issue ;-)

To summarize, for all of my download products I have now applied the following:

Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping Address
Always Free Shipping: Special, Product/Download Combo Requires a Shipping Address

I have no idea why I find this all so confusing. I need a flowchart or similar to follow the logic flow.

Re: How to turn off Free Shipping Image

NOTE: The combo was designed for a Product that:

1 gives a download

2 sends a physical product

This is again NOT used for just a Download Product ...

Products with a Download know that they are Free Shipping and do NOT need help to know this ...

OK you are stating if I set my download products as as follows everything will be hunk dory:

Product is Virtual: No, Shipping Address Required
Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

If so I will try that and see if it works for me.

And then wondering what is the "Product is Virtual" option for, if not for downloads?

Slugging through the fog hoping to find some clearing ahead.

Woo Hoo! Just tested and I like your way better. And all this time I've been kludging to make downloads and shipping work. Argh.

Now only if Google Checkout would support downloads and international shipping. :wink2:

So still wondering what the "Product is Virtual" option is for, if not for downloads? For when the "product" is a service, or a membership, or a donation? Any good examples?

Re: How to turn off Free Shipping Image

Linda,

Let me try explaining again. I don't want "free shipping" displayed on the prodcut info page as it just looks sloppy repeating itself for every product listing. What I want is when the customer click on a specific product listing and they get the detail page to then see a "free shipping" icon. This used to work fine in 1.3.6

Thanks

OI

A Virtual Product is:

1 a Gift Certificate
NOTE: this is also a special type of Virtual Product that requires a second trigger of a products_model that starts with:
GIFT

2 A service

3 Something that is not physically delivered to a customer's door ... excluding Downloads ...

Downloads are, in themselves, a special type of Product where if there is a download filename in the attribute that is a "trigger" in itself to manage Downloads ...

The exception is a Product that is simultaneously a Download and Physical Product ... meaning you cannot get the Product without recieving both a Download and a Physical thing at your door ... thus the Combo setting ...

Let's get the terms correct here ...

When you look in the URL what do you see when you do NOT want the Free shipping icon to show?

When you look in the URL what do you see when you DO want the Free shipping icon to show?

Re: How to turn off Free Shipping Image

Not quite sure I'm following you. If you go to my site....http://outdoorsinteriors.com and choose and product on left. When you get the product listing I don't want to see "free shipping". If you select a specific product though is when I do want to see it.

Does that help?

For a meeting of minds: In Zen Cart, individual product description pages are referred to as product_info_display pages (or product info pages). And category (and sub category pages) are referred to as product_listing pages (or product/category listing pages).

A. Regarding the free ship image appearing where you do not want it:

The following appears on everyone of your product_listing pages:

<div id="logo"><a href="http://outdoorsinteriors.com/"><img src="includes/templates/template_default/images/always-free-shipping.gif" alt="" width="94" height="54" /></a></div>

Check to see if you may have inadvertently included this at the bottom of each one of your category descriptions. To further investigate, visit Tools > Developers Toolkit, and search all your catalog files for the following items:

TEXT_PRODUCT_FREE_SHIPPING_ICON
always-free-shipping.gif
$current_categories_description

Should help you locate the source.

B. Regarding enabling the display of the free shipping image for each of your products, this is out of my league and best the blind not lead the blind. But with that in mind... :wink2:

If ALL your products are Free Shipping then see:
https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=70

In admin: Catalog > Categories/Products. Navigate to your product and edit your product. For each product set "Always Free Shipping:" to Yes.

But I think there might be/should be a better/easier way to set all your products for free shipping in one swoop, without having to visit each product edit page in admin. (myself if no other facility was available and if I had many products I'd run a simple SQL patch to update each product record). I defer on this.

Also in admin, Modules > Shipping select the "Free Shipping Options" shipping module. Some info will be displayed which may or may not be helpful to you. And if not sure install the module and test out.

Re: How to turn off Free Shipping Image

Woody,

Thanks for the response. I was using wrong terminology and yes I have on each Product listing main category the description of that category hard coded with "free shipping" icon. Your right though in I'm trying to get that to display for each product page.

Thx
