help with the product list for my store?

I'm not sure I see any benefit in starting again. Seems like a lot of work to get back to the same place to me.

All you need to do is create a new template directory and copy the files from templates/classic/ files into it, edit the template_info.php file to give your template a new name and then select it via Admin > Tools > Template Select.

You don't say which version of Zen Cart did the scaling for you, but I suspect that it was one of the old tables-based versions that would not have changed the image, but instead expanded the whole table to accommodate it thus covering up the mismatch between site size and image size.

The current version of Zen Cart is more respectful of what you tell it to do. As a designer I much prefer software that does what I tell it, but it is of course less forgiving when what you tell it to do is inconsistent :smile:

Re: help with the product list for my store?

one other question what is the path to the templates?
is it this one:
walkerindianrivergroves.com/httpdocs/zencart/includes/templates/
or

walkerindianrivergroves.com/httpdocs/zencart/includes/languages

thanks

someone here said it was about 5 versoins behind?Yep. That was me. And your original version was. But the one you have now is bang up to date. For the next few hours or so anyway.

ewalker3:

let me know about what i need to get the old color backReplace your includes/templates/classic/images/tile_back.jpg file with this one Attachment #1160 (and remember to include it when you create your own template).

ewalker3:

you a fan of the new doctor who?Slightly off topic, but yes, or at least I was until Monday's episode when his producers transported me, my house, my neighbours' houses and indeed the whole of Chiswick to south of the river where the tube don't run.

ewalker3:

one other question what is the path to the templates?
is it this one:
walkerindianrivergroves.com/httpdocs/zencart/includes/templates/
or

walkerindianrivergroves.com/httpdocs/zencart/includes/languagesBoth. The first is where most of your template files will go. The second is where the language files associated with your template go.

Re: help with the product list for my store?

i made a new folder under templates and added it
i copied the english languaed files into a new directory and made a copy of english.php give it the same name of the directory, i added it in the admin program and linked it to the template, i get the green template screens, but when i change the new.php file nothing happens, but if i go to the original english.php the text changes?

When you made a new folder under templates, what did you call it?

What is the full path name for the location to which you copied the english files, and the full path name to which you copied the english.php file?

What do you mean when you say that you added it in the Admin program? When I look at your site, it's still pointing to the original classic template which is why you get the green template screens.

I don't understand what you mean by the "new.php" file.

I suspect that your file structure might be slightly wrong. That's not usual when somebody creates a template for the first time, but if you could provide me with full path names, we can sort it out.

Re: help with the product list for my store?

The link was provided by stagebrace and is a good one, but I think that you may have got some bits just slightly off. If you post your full pathnames when you are able, we can check and, if necessary, correct them.

Re: help with the product list for my store?

hey guys - i had a chance to work on this again

i made a directories under the following:

zencart/includes/languages/english (wirg is the director name)
zencart/includes/templates/wirg, i copied everyything from template default and modified the template_info.php

take a look and see what i get now, the logo is correct size, but not centered, and the rest of it... in the layoutboxes controller it looks like something other than the classic layout options.

How do i get the classic template features back (the categories, etc) do i copy all the files from the english directory into wirg?

lastly, do i edit the english.php to change what it says from "zencart art of .." to "Walker...." or do i copy that somewher else?

thanks again,

ed

Re: help with the product list for my store?

STOOOOOPPPP

What's with this predilection for copying all of the files. Not only is this unnecessary, but you are creating problems for yourself.

Zen Cart uses an over-ride system which means that files are pulled from the template_default unless you wish to modify them, in which case you put an over-ride file in the relevant directory for your template. I recommend reading this part of the wiki to learn more.

If you copy every file then you are effectively over-riding every template file so when you next upgrade, the changes won't have any effect because you will still be overriding them all.

Also, by copying from template_default, you get a site that looks like template_default (which is intended to highlight things to be changed, rather than be seen). If you want a site that's a bit like classic, then you need to copy from there instead.

Re: help with the product list for my store?

ok i copied over the files from the classic template directory to the one i made:
zencart/includes/templates/wirg
it still looks the same.

all i want to do is have the classic template, back to the old orange style color,and know where to put the files i want to change, since you guys indicated that an upgrade would overwrite the files if i modified the files where they are now without moving them (ie: header.php under classic, etc)

there a a few things i want to change like "categories" to "products" and afew other things, otherwise the classic template is fine.

i understand now the override thing, but at the same time you indicate i shouldnt copy all the files under english in there cause that will cause problems.

so how can i get my site to have the classic template that i can modfify without worrying about the work being overwritten with an update?

and how do i get the page back to the center like the classic look has?

thanks,
ed

Re: help with the product list for my store?

have a look and see what a mess this is turning out to be..

www.walkerindianrivergroves.com/zencart

i did manage to get the header.php into a new directory under english
and the english.php into its on director (i get the concept of a director for the overrides under where the existing file you want to change resides)

so how do i get the logo and everything centers and either back to green or the original orange form old zencart? I applied the tile_back you sent me and thats the result.

thanks,
ed

Re: help with the product list for my store?

Although you have managed to change your override your header.php file, your version appears to have spurious text in it which is what is causing the warning messages at the top of the page and contributing to the rest of the page not displaying properly.

Also, you don't appear to have implemented any of the three possible solutions suggested three days ago, so you are still trying to display an 800px wide header in a 750px wide site which is why it overflows.

Although you say that you applied the tile_back.jpg file that I posted, it's not in your templates/wirg/images/ directory, and you would also need to change all references to tile_back.gif in your stylesheet to be to tile_back.jpg (apologies, I missed that first time around).

I guess im not sure where to look for the 750..
here is what i have in header.php
define('HEADER_ALT_TEXT', 'Walker Indian River Groves');
define('HEADER_SALES_TEXT', '<h1></h1>');
define('HEADER_LOGO_WIDTH', '192px');
define('HEADER_LOGO_HEIGHT', '70px');
define('HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE', 'walker_logo.jpg');

i will go back and look at what you guys sent but i thought thats where you directed me.

the spurrious text? any idea which file or what to look for?
thanks,
ed

Re: help with the product list for my store?

on changing the image from 800 to 750 are you talking about me resizing my logo file?

if so i dont have photoshop to do that.
can i send it to you to scale it down?

thanks,
ed

Re: help with the product list for my store?

i just copied a fresh header.php from the zencart installation files.

it is still as wide as the screen as opposed to the "classic template" that in centered on the screen.
