No order conformations and orders in admin with Paypal IPN

Ever since I installed my zen-cart web-store, nether me nor my customers receive an order conformation also the orders are not being recorded by Zen-cart admin only when the method of payment is Paypal.

What version of Zen Cart are you using? Do you have your Auto-Return and IPN URLS configured correctly on the PayPal site account? Are you using your PayPal PRIMARY account email address?

I went through it again. Same problem. I have anothe zen-cart store with a different host and no problem there. Could the host be blocking anything?

I use a Joomla+virtuemart web-store with same host and no problem there.

Most likely yes.

If you turn on the PayPal debugging, as mentioned in the article I referred to, you may come up with some information that explains how much of the IPN transaction is getting to you vs not getting to you. If PayPal cannot complete a notification to your store, then your customers' orders will hang in limbo until the notification completes.

Or you could upgrade to v1.3.7 and use PayPal's Express Checkout instead, which doesn't have to wait for PayPal to notify your site of a completed order ... it releases the order immediately.

the log is empty.

If your log is empty then either the logging system is unable to write its logs due to permissions problems, or the logging is disabled ... or .... PayPal is not able to talk to your webstore in order to deliver its notifications. The latter suggests a communications block between your host and PayPal.
So ... the various troubleshooting steps mentioned earlier are going to be required:

Or you could upgrade to v1.3.7 and give PayPal Express Checkout a try -- it doesn't rely on IPN to release orders if the customer is paying via PayPal funds or by Credit Card and uses a Confirmed address. (It does rely on IPN to update orders if you alter their status in your PayPal console or when an echeck clears or when you manually accept a non-confirmed address, etc ... so you really should still get the IPN system working.)

1. the permissions are set to 777.
2. I get the payments OK.
3. the customer is redirected back to my webstore after the check out.
4. I spoke to the hosting company and gave them the port needed for the PayPal, they confirmed that these are open. Is there a way I can check the ports myself?

I am getting this same problem. I have upgraded to version 1.3.6 i uninstalled paypal module and reinstalled. I have double checked all the information and configurations all ok.

Orders by another means works ok.

It would not be such a problem but my wife requires the zencart email to see what has been sold having to check zencart admin all the time is going to be a pain.

Everything was working before the upgrade :-(

So as a workaround how do i get zencart to send paypal the product id etc. This will help the customer as they will be reminded what they have brought from us.

Are you saying you see the order in Zen Cart but you do not get the email on the order from Zen Cart?

Do you have it set to send an email? Configuration ... E-Mail Options ...

Send Copy of Order Confirmation Emails To
Send COPIES of order confirmation emails to the following email addresses, in this format: Name 1 email@address1, Name 2 email@address2

Check for a typo ...

I have just double checked that option it seems to be set ok.

Just so you know the customer and the shop email address do not get a zencart email. However when creating a new account, resetting password or using send email the customers are getting emails.

Both of us get a paypal email.

I was having the same problem it seems when users goto the paypal site they can use paypal express instead of logging in. If they use paypal express you will not get any order info in your database. If they log in you will get there information and order info. You probably have to upgrade to the new version of the zen cart to recieve this data.

Thanks for your response. However i am in the uk and paypal express does not work over here. Also when i ran the test i logged in to the account to pay by paypal but did not get the email, that is how i know that this is not by design.

I did have the mod to view stuck paypal orders, but did not install it this time in admin. Funny now all my paypal orders are stuck.

PayPal Express Checkout should work internationally.
The thing that doesn't work for UK accounts is Website Payments Pro, which currently isn't available for Zen Cart yet.
