I think I'm an idiot

To be honest, I didn't install zen cart to my forum, my friend/host did. So when it comes to installing the add-ons or downloads available I'm clueless. There are 2 that I want to do but I also don't want to screw my site up the day before I wish to release it. I ave amde a full back up. I really want to add on the phpbb forum and this add on http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...products_id=77 But since I didn't even install zen cart I don't understand how to do any of this. Can anyone point or shove me in the right direction. I'm just trying hard to not have to rely on my friend to do installs like this.

Re: I think I'm an idiot

phpbb2 is an easy install. I loaded mine into a directory named "forum" just below the root. I turned of the phpbb integration with zen cart cause I had to many people registering with the forum directly and then trying to add the same nickname when creating an account in the cart. So turned it off to save myself the trouble of having to explain it over and over again and having to delete the new forum user that they would create. I also use a ezpage to place the link to the forum in my cart pages.
The module you want to load is also easy. It comes with a text file of instructions, but basically you'll find some directories named "YOURTEMPLATE", rename these directories to match the name of your overrides directory name and just drag over the includes directory (has the other directories in it), using your ftp program, and they will be placed in the correct places in your directory tree. You will also have to run the included sql file....open the file and copy its contents then open phpmyadmin and go to your DB and click on sql on the top tab and then insert the copied sql text into the textarea and click go. That should do it.
Hope I made some sense....good luck!

Re: I think I'm an idiot

well the forum was easy to install lol should have done that a long time ago. I just haven't added the link from the site to the forum yet. But I did add a link from the forum to the site :P I'm getting there at least. Not willing to test the mod install alone yet. Think I need someone to hold my hand lol, kidding.

Re: I think I'm an idiot

that mod is easy,
upload the files in the curent directory structure,

then open your ZC admin and under tools -> sql updater,
paste the contents of the .sql file into the box and hit GO

voila all installed

Re: I think I'm an idiot

oh that was already what I was going to do lol I just wish I could have done it the other way. Just so that people could use the same logins at both etc, but that's not working either so pooo oh well 4 hours of playing with that and I'm done that's the 4th all nighter this week.

Re: I think I'm an idiot

the phpbb integration doesn't quite work the way you are thinking.....really what it does is let people register for the cart and the board at the same time by adding the nickname block to the cart sign up page and allowing the cart to write that info to the forum database. You would still have to use your email as the username on the cart and your nickname on the forum. With the problem I had with people registering for the cart and then trying to register with the forum and ending up with double accounts cause they didn't understand the process it was easier to seperate them.

Re: I think I'm an idiot

No I know how it works, my friend/host explained it all to me awhile ago...before I cared lol. But now he is unavailable and I just said let's just try it. Made a site back up and there was a forum lol. So then my question for you is, are you just having people create a different one for the forum since they can't grasp the concept lol? Also I love love your forum and how you have it setup, how hard was that to do? Trying to find a template I like but it's just not working lol. This is as far as I have gotten http://www.alloccasionwraps.com/forum

Re: I think I'm an idiot

you just create a new page and select where you want the link to appear and have it link to url of your forum
