Designer Monthly Boxes

Hello there Qhome,

Great mod, really like. I wondered how to sort a little niggle I am having. The featured products show up for every category, regardless. Whereas they were displaying for the relevant category that was active.

I don't know if I knocked a setting, or maybe if I have missed somthing, so sorry in advance if this is the case.

This sounds like a settings in the configuration area (can't remember which section) Try using the original Feature_products module and tpl file and see if the problem is still there. If so, then search the configuration area for "Show Featured Products on Main Page" or "All pages" or something.

Just a note: URLs in the stylesheet or the templates should ALWAYS be relative and not absolute, then you won't ever run into this problem.

I assume you are referring to the problem where I hardcoded the full path to the divider image. yes yes i know... bad q bad q

Regards to image sizes. On the index page of my Zen Cart 1.37 shop I'm displaying only the Featured Products in the center column. However after installing he mod I discovered changing the product image size for Featured Products no longer has any effect (Images > Image - Featured Products Height).

However changing the New Products image size now changes the Featured Product image sizes. (Image - New Products Height).

Any ideas? Not a biggy for me right now as I'm currently not displaying the New Products center box.

Been trying to "mod this mod" all day without success, I wondered if anyone here had managed to achieve something similar to what can be seen on one of our competitors sites: www dot trade-appliances.co.uk [Didn't make it a link, they don't need the business]!

Is your question specifically related to the Designer Monthly Boxes mod or is it just a general question?

Have you checked the showcase for ecommerce sites running Zen Cart?

What specifically are you trying to achive? What functions/features/presentation you see on that website home page do you desire on your website?

As far as I can tell Zen Cart (with some add-ons) can do pretty much everything I see on that site. Without requiring 5000 plus pounds expenditure for the ecommerce application used by that site.

I believe it is related to Designer Monthly Boxes, otherwise I would have posted somewhere else. Unless of course I have misunderstood the concept of the mod, then I appologise.

I will try and explain a little more clearly...

Say for example I display Specials on my home page. I would like each individual product box to have a header "Special Offer" for example. Below which I would like to display the product name, picture, short text and price. The objective being to display the products on the home page more like a "Teaser Ad", as you have seen on our competitors site.

I am sure that zen-cart is more than capable of doing what I want, I am just trying to find out how to do it. I thought that using this mod was the right approach, but after spending all day failing miserably I though it was time to ask! And no, I haven't found anyone in the showcase who has done this.

It was impossible to make any assumptions or compare with the 'other' site as no URL to your site was provided. So now I understand you are referring to the various individual product boxes in the center column on the other site.

Qhome knows his mod much more in depth, but as I understand the mod utilizes/extends Zen Cart's existing built in support for New, Featured and Specials Products center boxes. Think of these as group product "category" listing panels displayed in the center column. The mod is not designed for presenting "individual" product boxes, which can be assigned to display in specific locations. I think this is what you are wanting.

If you desire front page custom product boxes, which will not to change very often (no need for dynamic linkage to shop database), it might be best to custom design your own individual boxes and place in the center column on main page.

If you're not sure how to do this best way to learn is to "View source" the page on the other site and see how they are doing it. Probably an embedded table with nested tables with some CSS will get you where you need to go.

However it is difficult to make any intelligent recommends without providing an URL and the version of Zen Cart you have installed.

Post back if you need info on which template file to edit to include your custom boxes. Probably best to start a new thread, maybe on the "Page Layout Changes" board.

I had just about reached the same conclusion. Should be quite simple to make a non-dynamic template, hoped that it could be controlled from the admin, but never mind!

Mod as it stands is great though, I will continue to use it "as is" elsewhere.

ya it was just designed to add the dashed lines in between products and to add the add to cart button instead of more info to the squares. I would like to make a mod that makes individual squares for each product tho. I just haven't had time for zc contribbing lately.

Its a great contribution, I just got carried away tring to make it do something it wasn't supposed to do.

I will keep my eye open for any future update/mod, but in the meantime my mouth will be shut! :laugh:

Thanks for the reply and the compliment. Using your css I was able to add the lines one way but not the other. Doing it with the css with just the dotted border looked awful. I would like to add some padding as well. The description is right against the line.
