Want to lose the scrollbar

I would like to lose the bottom scroll bar. I have reseized the page to 603px, tried 90%, 80% and even 100% in the stylesheet to no avail. Yes, the page width shrinks, but is always centered such that the bottom scroll bar keeps appearing.

It's in a Frame (OK - I know - Zen hates frames, or is it Frames doesn't liek Zen?), but it's what I need. Please take a look (**click here**) and see if you can spot the problem as to why the bottom scroll bar insists on being there. The size of the framed page itslef is 619px.

Re: Want to lose the scrollbar

try setting it to 600px wide,

please tell me why you think you need a frame to complete that design,
that would be very doable using the exsisting zen cart structure

There is a link here in a post I found to Experts-Exchange.com but they went commercial and want registration now - after first visit.

They suggested removing some of the Code (in the headers Doctype.) Couldn't copy & paste the suggestion and when I went back for the info again, they caught my cookie and want me to buy the solution now via a membership I probably will never again use! Arrrrg!

Unfortunately, the edit also apparantly wrecks havoc on tables!

Sorry - to answer your question - frames were used to allow for the Java animation in the top frame (water waves) and to not have the whole screen re-draw every time a new prodiuct page is broght to bear, or user changes from one category to another to cart to checkout et cetera.

Oddly enough, in XP and IE6, using the left meu log out the user but, in 98SE with IE6 does not eject the logged on user.

Re: Want to lose the scrollbar

you only need the header to wave on the main page right, thats the eye catcher, after that your products better have their eye or its a lost cause.

zen cart allows you to create a seperate header for the index ( with the waves ) and then a standard for the rest of site NO waves,

In FF the waves are so slight that there is almost no notice of them, had you not said something I wouldnt have even known they were there,

Customers are retailers who can order bulk. Don't need to catch their eye - it's been caught. Just trying to set up something to make it easier fro customers to order. If a 'person' wants to join in, that's fine, but the general audience is there - will be after they are given the site, when it's working.

Still trying to disable the scrollbar. Even if I set the width way down, there is still a blank on left and right - even if I could just Valign everything left, instead of the div / center that is around in there somewhere - it would be a start.

Re: Want to lose the scrollbar

I don't get it -- you are going to a lot of trouble to recode things to work in frames in order to provide an animated "thing" for customers who you say have already been "wow'd" and thus don't need to be impressed.

Merlin's suggestion is logical and a lot less work. (And wouldn't leave you with your sessions problems you reported elsewhere.)

By the way, your animation doesn't play all the time (even in IE6 SP2) ... which is another good reason to go another route. ZoneAlarm privacy settings appear to stop your java app from playing.

Your XP scrollbar issue is likely a result of XP using a different model for its GUI and wanting to reserve additional space (ie: more than it did in Win98 etc) for the placement of the vertical scrollbar, thus forcing the horizontal scrollbar to be active.

There are a zillion business reasons not to use frames, with the primary one being that search engines don't index frames very well, if at all. Granted, if you don't care whether anybody can find your site via Google etc, then I guess that doesn't matter.

Re: Want to lose the scrollbar

There is another problem you may have, whether related to frames or not I don't know.

On my 800x600 monitor, your page appears to be cut in half. There is the frame with its scrollbars, but the main page has no way to see the right side (and bottom?) or get to whatever is there outside the frame. I see
Home Login Rael's Bio Contact Shopping Cart Chec
and nothing to the right of that. No scrollbars on the main page.

Either you have decided not to sell to anybody using an 800x600 monitor, :schmoll: or there is something wrong with the site setup. BTW, I am using FF 1.5.

Thanks for checking it out at that res. FYI - it is Frame related due to the top images being not more than 750px wide so frames were set to that.
The decision was made late last night to lose the left menu frames and make the Zen cart area wider. That should accomodate any 800x600. I hope no one has the older 640x480! and, hopefully work around any XP/IE bugs that refuse to cooperate.

Re: Want to lose the scrollbar

The scroll bar you are referring to appears to be related to that particular frame, and not to the page. Simply turn off the horizontal scrolling in that frames' setting and it will go away... Although this won't take care of any other problems...

The Vert bar needs to exist, and although the page is sized much smaller itself than the frame, the H scrollbar is still there. I heard of a tweek that let's one use either V or H or both - tracking it down.
As for any other problems - they have been solved.
Thanks again.

Re: Want to lose the scrollbar

Its been years since I have done anything in frames but as I recall, you can define which scroll bars you want to enable when you define the frame... and all you have to do is disable the horizontal scrollbar in your main frame and it should go away...

I apologize that I can't recall the command, but whatever program you are using to define the frames should give you this ability, as I recall even front page used to provide this capability...

Best Regards
