Coupon restrictions NOT working on V1.3.7

Hi have gone through all the posts here about setting restrictions for coupons. No matter what I do I cannot get it to work and I'm just about bald now... :wacko: Anyways, here is the deal: I make a coupon, set it to $10 discount with $20 minimum order, free shipping box NOT checked as that causes problems. My restrictions are as follows: Top, Deny All; Gift, Allow. Thats all I got, if I remove the restrictions it all works wonderfully, but as soon as I add just 1 restriction everything goes to H**L in a handbasket. Please help as I don't think my head can take much more hair pulling...

Are you trying to add Discount Coupons to Gift Certificates?

No, what I'm trying to do is as follows: If you purchase $20 worth of products including our gift, you get $10 off your purchase, but only on the gift. Basically it saying that if you order $20 of products including the gift, you get the gift for free by putting in your coupon code. I hope this makes some sense.

Ok I figured out that the coupons don't work like I thought they did in my head. So after a bit more research, I found this:

And after doing all the steps I got the coupon to work doing what I wanted it to.
