goemerchant module won't connect to gateway

Hi guys, rank newbie here so I'm apologizing for any apparent stupidity in advance. I'm not a programmer by any stretch, but I can usually tinker my way through stuff and get it to work.

I seem to have successfully installed Zen Cart (3.6, using OneClick installer from DreamHost on a Linux server, MySQL database, php 5.1.2 running as CGI/FastCGI if that makes any difference)

Everything seems to be going swimmingly except that I've installed the goemerchant payment module (as downloaded from the "downloads" area here,) installed it, and...when I try to run a checkout, Zen Cart doesn't even seem to try to communicate with the goemerchant gateway. No secure connection, and if I try to check out anyway, it just reloads that page.

I've tried contacting the support guy at goemerchant, and he reviewed the module php and is puzzled because he can't see any reason why it shouldn't be working. The only think I can think of is that the module does ask for something called a 'transaction key' in the installation section on the payment module page. My account with goemerchant doesn't have a transaction key, and the support guy there said I should be able to safely leave that blank, and it shouldn't affect anything. I'm just throwing all the info I can think of out there in the hopes it might give someone a clue.

Any ideas?

Re: goemerchant module won't connect to gateway

Does the module require any special ports on the server/firewall to be open? For example Linkpoint API module requires port 1129 for it's communications. If it does, you will need your host to assist you.

Re: goemerchant module won't connect to gateway

The "Transaction Key" refered to is the same as your "Transaction Center ID" with Go-Emerchant. Add that and I'm sure you'll be on your way to happily posting transactions.
