Images Don't Appear

Hi folks. I have tried searching the forums.

I try to add a product within a category. I choose to upload an image. It says successful, and when I use my FTP program to double check, the image is where it should be. However when I go to look at the preview or the product, all I get is a white image with a red cross in the top corner.

I have downloaded the image to confirm it has not become corrupted.

I tried earlier with an image, no problem. I try again with the same image and it doesnt work. Nothing has been changed code or settings wise as far as I am aware!

I have tried changing the image encoding to RGB as suggested elsewhere.
I have tried to look at the image via the web and get:

You don't have permission to access /images/uploads/image.jpg on this server

The problem is I should have access, all hese folders I have tried at CHMOD 755.

Why can't I see them!?!?!?!?!?

Why are you putting the image in the upload directory? That is reserved for customers to upload files for customizable products.

Im aware of this Kim, but I have naturally tried the main directory to no avail. May have an idea.
