Here's a way to do a quick email test ...
In the /zc_install folder of your original Zen Cart files. there is a file called "techsupp.php".
If you edit that file, you'll see that the first 3 lines are related to configuring it to allow you to send test emails. Edit the file according to the instructions (just add your email address really) and then upload it to your website.
Then open the file via your browser (http://yoursite.com/techsupp.php) and enter some text and submit the form. It should send an email to the address you used inside the PHP file before uploading it.
If the email arrives properly, then the "PHP" transport method is what you want to use within Zen Cart. If it doesn't arrive, then edit the techsupp.php file and try a different email address and upload it again. Then use the browser to try another test. Try with several email addresses of different places, preferably not "free email" addresses such as yahoo or hotmail, since those are often blacklisted etc.
What happens when you do this ... ?
