Why is it adding two tax rates together?

I have two tax rates, one for New York City and one for Maryland. I want it to tax based on where it is being shipped. So if the shipping address is Maryland, it should charge Maryland tax, if it new york it should do new york tax. But when I do a test check out it is combining the two tax rates and charging too much. Not sure why it is adding the two tax rates together?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Do you have a physical location in Maryland? If not you may want to talk to the taxing authorities to find out if you really need to be charging their tax.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: Why is it adding two tax rates together?

Thanks, I figured it out. I wasn't putting the actual zones under the defining zones areas so it was adding them together instead of being two distinct tax rates.

Was told that since my partner lives in Maryland and we do work there partially, I think we still have to charge Maryland tax as well.

Glad you got the configuration straightened out.

More than likely, you will have to charge tax in the state that matches the shipping address. Be sure to consult with your local tax authority in both states for clarification.
